Is it stupid to buy reloads off of the forum. I have always bought factory, but have been looking at some reloads, just for target.

I don't know about stupid...but maybe a little iffy. I reload for myself and family and that's about it. you gotta wonder about somebody who is willing to take a risk and load for complete strangers unless they have insurance and are licensed and all that. I have several co-workers that want me to make them some reloads. I've never had any dangerous issues myself with my reloads but the thought of something happening to someone else or their gun because of a simple/stupid mistake on my part, makes me steer clear. I think for me to buy reloads I would have to see the operation and know the people pretty well. I would have to make sure I wasn't buying from some dude that just dropped a bunch of cash on a dillon progressive and is looking to drink some beers and make some money on the weekends. maybe I'm just paranoid though.

I would neither reload for someone else nor buy some unknown loads. I've tried a lot of different recipes with mixed results for my guns. You really don't know what you're getting.

Sorta like wearing someone else's underwear, you never know what you're going to get.

Reloads are like moonshine.
You have to trust who is making it. Cause you could go blind either way.
.....I just totally made that up right now.

I'm not shootin other peoples reloads unless I know and trust them (meaning been there and helped them reload).

I shot re-loads one time in my life and I'll never do it again. I purchased these from a co-worker I'd known and trusted.
He wasn't a boozer, but made a mistake nonetheless.
One extremely hot .357 load that literally blew out the barrel on my S & W. Knocked me to the ground and if I hadn't been wearing safety glasses, I probably would've lost my eyesight.
I picked schrapnel out of my face for 2 weeks after that.
Never again.

Besides, from the prices I have seen some people asking for their reloads, you can buy factory ammo. I don't know why someone would pay $25 for a box of reloaded .45 rounds.

If you bought it from a long time poster with a reputation of doing things right then that should give at least some sense of comfort as opposed to getting it from a total stranger.
For all we know with the labor markets in the shape they are in you may have somebody with the skill of a McDonald's burger flipper overseeing ammo being loaded at the Remington plant. With the last few Remington bulk 22 packs I am averaging about one misfire to every fifteen to twenty rounds, and this is from several different guns.

I agree DannyB...that's why the only round I will hunt with or defend my home with will be one that I have made. I'll have to trust the primer guys until I figure out a way to make those in my garage.

Is it legal to sell handloads? Lots of liability there. No way would I sell my handloads. Don't need a big lawsuit if something were to happen.

Still need a license today. not sure if they would go after someone selling a limited amount of rounds, but i think they want to quell the operations that try to make it a business.

I wouldn't buy reloads from just anyone, nor would I ever sell a reload. I could see myself developing a load for someone though. But development is a different matter, requiring the gun they are to be shot through to be present so accuracy and safety criteria could be insured throughout the whole process.
Too many variables involved otherwise.
As to the legality.....I wonder if someone could bring the components, then you just charge them for the labor and knowledge? Gray area at best though.
