Try Underwood's for sure. It is good food. I will post up some more when I can remember their names.

Hard 8 Bar-B-Q in Brady is really really good. From Brownwood take 377 south to Brady and from Brady you can take 190 towards Menard.

Brownwood is not known for its fine eating establishments. For Mexican I like a new place called "El Jimador" its located at Main and West Commerce, next to Kroger. (377 at 84) Prima Pasta is pretty good Italian, Underwoods has pretty good fried chicken. Studebaker's has a pretty decent and cheap breakfast. The Red Wagon is good for breakfast but too smoky for my taste.

I'll second Underwoods. I'm old school when it comes to them. They used to be all over the state until there was a split with the brothers. Then it was only the ones in Waco and Brownwood. I would drive several miles off of 35 to eat at the one in Waco. Unfortunately it closed several years ago.
I have family members that have literally driven hours just to eat at the one in Brownwood. It is a stop for me whenever I am there.
Try the beefsteak - you won't be sorry, you can eat it with a fork.

There is also a killer mexican food restaraunt right next to the heartland mall there. Cant think of the name but that is some good authentic food and its cheap. Breakfast is awesome too!

Yep, I ate at Humphrey Pete's the last trip through. Good food & cute waitresses, as well!
I can't stand Hard 8 in Brady, so that's a big negative ghost rider.
Any more suggestions?

We're long time Underwood fans but the last two times we went there it seems to have changed. The taste seems is different. So now we just drive on by. I've wondered about Humphrey Pete's. It looks like it would be good from the street.

Oh no no. Yall forgot the Section Hand on the SW side of town on 377. We have a guy on our lease, that when it's his time to cook, he loads up everybody and takes us there to eat. Good food and a BUFFET.

Oh man that is really, really sad news. I've not eaten at that particular Underwoods in several years now. The taste was allways unique and consistent at any Underwoods. I don't know why people mess with good things. Earl We're long time Underwood fans but the last two times we went there it seems to have changed. The taste seems is different. I've recently traveled through Brownwood on my way out of the panhandle headed towards Austin. I second the excellent opinions on Underwoods. Be sure to get cobbler.
Be kind with your words, thankful to your Creator and generous with the meat from your hunt.

Good food and a BUFFET. I noticed that restaurant on the way through last weekend. The parking lot was packed, so I'm assuming they have some good grub. If I try it, I will report back. BTW, I tried the CFS at Humphrey Pete's last weekend and it was great! Hand-breaded, not the frozen kind. Mmmmm...

Humphrey Pete's is by far the best for a steak here. There is always Gomez's for fried tomatoes an hot sause an chips, they do now serve alcohol an no one thinks anything of you ordering a beer for breakfast! Dont really care for the instant potatoes and vegtables straight out of the can at Underwoods. Construction is almost done!!

Update for last trip.
Okay, I ate at the Section Hand this trip down to the lease. Very average at best. I actually think the steak is better at Humphrey Pete's, plus the atmosphere is better. Football on the TVs, hot waitresses, cold beer.
