I got this from a friend in Cisco tonight. He said he heard it on the news tonight. I will be calling the number in the email tomorrow and post any further information I find out. I did not include the number and names but will be following up tomorrow.
"Please send this to all Healthcare providers in Eastland County and to the ER physicians. During Dr. Deluca absence as County Health Official, the Agriculture Extension Office in Austin called and wants the healthproviders to know of a poisoning that occurred in Eastland county 2 weeks ago. A ranch south of Carbon tried to kill wild hogs by mixing deer corn with a pesticide called Temik. Temik contains Aldicarb (cholinesterase inhibitor) which is very neurotoxic. The rancher spread a very large amount of mixed corn on their 2000 acre peanut crop to kill wild hogs. However, it had been noted that deer where feeding on the same ranch. With the opening of deer season this weekend, authorities are asking hunters not to eat venison meet harvested in south Eastland County until further notice. Any deer appearing sick, stumbling, should be avoided. Though ingested levels would have to be high in a deer, duck, hog, etc. to seriously affect humans, authorities note it is very toxic and possibly fatal. State and federal investigations are in progress."

I turned some guys in a few years ago to operation game theif for trying to poison hogs. Do they not realize deer are going to eat that stuff too and people could end up eating those deer. If you have a bad enough hog problem you can get govt assistence, bringing in trappers and even helicopter shoots.

This is from the Mayor of Eastland posted on our local message board this afternoon. I know some people were wondering the location:
I just talked to Michael Hare with the Ag Extension Service in Austin. He asked me to pass this information along: The area in question is a five mile circle with the center being at the intersection of State Hwy 206 and FM569 south of Cisco. He said the venison from within this five mile circle should not be eaten. He is waiting on a press release to go out, but asked me to spread this information.

I'm at fm 571, not far but out of the 5 mile circle, I think. Should I be ok to eat any meat harvested this year?

Hmmm, I'm at a little over 3.5 miles north of this. No bueno for sure, but didn't have much effect on my pigs! Also for those of you wondering...that 420 pounder wasn't a barrow! lol Also a 5 mile radius is a little exagerated, but better safe than sorry I guess. I'm not going to worry about it.

Do I hear the likes of a definite civil suit for any paying hunters with in these boundaries? Maybe that will get the ranchers attention real quick!!

I just spoke to Michael Hare with the Austin Ag Ext. Office.
He sad that the have 2 comfrimed fields where they have found the corn laced with Aldicarb. Those fields are located just west of nwy 183 between county roads fm170 and fm173. There have been dead animals found in and around those fields.
He also said they are hoping to get to some more fields today that they have not confirmed yet near 206 and fm 569.
Alos they do not recoment eating any animals from withing 5 miles of these locations.

Here is the latest update that I have received
Here is an update just received from Michael Hare in Austin:
Corn poisoned with Temix / Aldicarb was found in 2 peanut fields and is suspected in 4 more. The location of the 2 confirmed poisoned fields is 9 miles South of Cisco, just West of SH 183, between CR173 on the North and CR170 on the South. The location of the 4 suspected poisoned fields is West of the 2 confirmed poison fields. These 4 fields are near the intersection of SH 206 and CR 218. The poisoned corn is still on the ground in the 2 confirmed poison locations. It is in piles throughout the field. The dead animals found so far are 3 deer, 6 hogs, 1 red tail hawk, and 2 buzzers. The poisoned corn was originally found October 7. The investigation has moved slowly because the people responsible have not been cooperative and have withheld information. Investigators are on site today. Several government agencies are involved in this ‘fluid, on going investigation”. The recommendation is to not eat deer killed in a 5 mile radius of these locations
If you shoot a young deer because a neighbor will shoot it, you are that neighbor.

Sure looks like they are moving slow with deer season opening this weekend. There will be a lot of people in that area that have not heard of this event until they get to their lease and maybe not even then. They ought to fine this old boy the same as if he had poached the animals.

Remember deer season is a month old if talking about archery. Heard of one gu that has meat from 2 in at a processor, he cannot get his meat because it came from that area. Not sure he wants it but that could be 2 wasted deer also.

Word from some friends out that way is the perps lease about 2000 acres for peanut farming in the area. With them not coorporating with the authorities you have to wonder where all they spread the stuff.

I work with someone that owns 150-200 acres not 3 miles from the suspected fields at SH 206 and I think it was FM529. I feel for him. He has 150-170 class bucks on it. Some real bruisers. He didn't even know about it until I mentioned it this morning. He is NOT happy...
