Is there something special about these rifles? Heard someone talking them up the other day and wondered if it was legit that the pre 64 is worth more than post 64s. A little THF wisdom please.

Not an expert but I believe it has something to do with Winchester going away from some hand fitting/hand making process to more of a mass assembly line.

Not only do the 94's fall into this but the model 70 as well.

The post 64's replaced a lot of machined parts with stampings. For me, the easiest and quickest way to identify as pre64 is to look at the loading gate. On a pre64 the "flute" is machined in a forged piece of steel. In the post 64 the loading gate is a stamping.

dont know about yall, but as far as the pre 64 model 94's go, they seem kinda rickety to me.

I've owned a modern 94, and compared to a 336 they arn't nearly as solid, but a buddy brought out a pre 64 94 last week and we shot it a few times, thing was in excellent shape, but it just felt rickety. definatly not a firm feeling firearm.

pre 64 model 70's are nice though

I have owned pre 64's post 64's and the modern angle eject models

the pre 64's are great, the post 64s that are top eject up to the 1980's models but when they 1. started the angle eject so you could mount a scope BAD IDEA 2. started putting safties on them.

It is apparent they went the way CHEAP production is best, great rifles it was just going down hill... then 2005 i think they stopped producing the model 94 all together and the prices sky rocketed

Best way to tell a pre-64 model 94 is serial#; they are under 2700000. I have 2, 25-35 & 30-30 carbines, with a 32 Special octagon rifle on the way.

I agree with deewayne....why do you need a safety on a gun with a hammer???

I agree with most of the posts but just can't find it in me to hate a levergun. If I was limited to just one gun it would be a levergun, just not sure which caliber yet.

I love my pre64 model 94. It shoots great and I can't wait to take my annual buck with it this season.

I'm a throwback I guess, but I hunt with a Savage model 99 in 300 Savage and my model 94 and I always get my deer every year with these two relics from the past.

Okay, Lots of info and I appreciate it but what is an average condition pre 64 30-30 worth?
