What a freaking dumba$$. I hunt about 16 miles north of there as a crow flies. Hopefully the 5 miles is true and we will be safe along with our wildlife. To the ones in that area I do feel for you.

Hang his AZZ... If this person can be that damn stupid to do what he did, he needs to be hung. If the law dawg dont do his part, this guy is going to have a bunch of REDNECKS after his azz.(including myself).. I hunt in Eastland about 20 minutes north of there and it looks like im just hunting for horns this year. There has to be something that can be done on the hunters side of this for having a ruined season do to this guy.

I spoke with Michale Hare today as well. He said that there was only one confirmed dead deer.. but the guy did knock off some pigs.. He allowed that several different agencies were on the case and that the farmer was finally being helpful. The tainted corn is still in the field.. the place we hunt is right at carbon, so we are about 12 miles away from the center of the 5 mile circle.

What happens with all the birds and water fowl that fly out of the 5 mile radius? Will hogs and coyotes eat these and be poisoned also that is what worries me can not hunt hogs and take the chance.

Ok, So it effects the deer and all other wildlife in the area including rabbits, mice and rats therefore it would also affect the birds of prey in the area that eat the small rodents such as Red-Tailed Hawks, Prarie Falcons, Screech Owls, Great Horned Owls, and Barn Owls as well as any other raptor, correct?

Not necessarily...depends on the strength of the poison. I believe most anything these days is not potent enough for secondary consumers to be affected.

the Ag agent told me that if an animal ingests the poison and survives, it will dissapate from its body in a couple of days..He didnt think that much of anything would survive ingesting the TEmik.

LIKE I SAID BEFORE THE AREA IS CLOSE TO CROSS PLAINS BETWEEN HWY 206 AND COUNTY ROAD 219. THAT IS FAR ENOUGH FROM CARBON THAT IT SHOULDN'T BE A PROBLEM. I HOPE THEY ARE CLEANING UP THE TAINTED CORN AND GATHERING UP ANY DEAD ANIMALS AND BURNING THEM. SURELY THE STATE WILL DO THIS TO HELP OUT THE WILDLIFE AND THE HUNTERS. IT IS THE LODGICAL THING TO DO. BUT WHO KNOWS!

Temik is some bad $$$$! I thought they outlawed that use long ago. My grandfather used that on his cotton fields way back when it was popular for pesticide use. Anything that eats that stuff is pretty much DRT. They will not make it very far.

I just posted this on the other thread about the Eastland county poisoning. I had not seen this thread before I started the other one.
I just spoke to Michael Hare with the Austin Ag Ext. Office.
He sad that the have 2 comfrimed fields where they have found the corn laced with Aldicarb. Those fields are located just west of nwy 183 between county roads fm170 and fm173. There have been dead animals found in and around those fields.
He also said they are hoping to get to some more fields today that they have not confirmed yet near 206 and fm 569.
Alos they do not recoment eating any animals from withing 5 miles of these locations.

From the Deer section:
"This is from the Mayor of Eastland posted on our local message board this afternoon. I know some people were wondering the location:
I just talked to Michael Hare with the Ag Extension Service in Austin. He asked me to pass this information along: The area in question is a five mile circle with the center being at the intersection of State Hwy 206 and FM569 south of Cisco. He said the venison from within this five mile circle should not be eaten. He is waiting on a press release to go out, but asked me to spread this information." The following is a correction to the location. Apparently the farmer that set out the poison leases several places for peanut production. They are testing soil from more than one location: MPN has been informed that the information given out previously about the location of the peanut fields where Temik was mixed with corn to kill hogs, needs to be corrected and updated. There has been one site that has had ground samples sent in and confirmed to have been contaminated. This location is south of Cisco, 3/10 west of Hwy 183 on CR 173. The location at Hwy 206 and FM 569 is suspect but has not been confirmed as a poison site. Map It was discovered that a group of peanut growers leasing land in Eastland County had been putting out corn mixed with Temik to kill hogs. The peanut growers have not been cooperating with authorities and it is known that they have land leased in other places. Authorities are in the process of trying to find out what lands they have leased and if they have used this method in other locations. We will update information as soon as it is released. Chances are very small that a human could be affected by eating the meat of an animal that has ingested a small amount of Aldicarb. The poison is potent, fast acting, and metabolized quickly, so an animal who has eaten any of the poison would be killed quickly or could be staggering and look sick. It is recommended that anyone hunting within a 4-5 mile radius of Hwy 183 & CR 173 not eat the meat of any game killed. Any deer or game that is stumbling or appears sick should also be avoided. This appeared on microplexnews.com.

They probally will put out maps tomorrow afternoon after they get us that hunt in the area out tomorrow afternoon, get teh money they can from us for food, resturants, stores, hotels.......
From what have heard from some locals this might be more wide spread than initial reports. These peanut farmers apparently lease around 2000 acres in the area and are not talking about where they spread the stuff.
I wish the authorities would at least make accurate statements and plublish them, they can be amended later to include more, but at least comeout with the truth in a timely manner

Any hunters in the area that are truly effected by this should band together and file a class action suit against these idiots. Let the Feds deal with them, then the State, then the County, then let the civil courts suck the marrow out of the bone. Hell, Maybe even give PETA a call too!

Any names given yet? Grew up around there and can think of two or three farmers off the top of my head that would be suspect.
