Pigs are getting fat. They have been eating really well this last year. I let the red one walk several times last year and he seems to be filling out rather well. He has some great character and traits. I may let him get another year. Should be a trophy someday. Just for reference the feeder is one of the big az feeders from academy. Holds about 600 - 700 pounds of corn. I know it is hard to judge from pictures and i have not seen him yet this season. [img:center][/img]

+1 You don't let hogs grow to trophy size because they will produce 50 more piglets while your waiting. Shoot them now.

That red boar is a good lookin' pig.....I'd let him keep growing too. If you want to reduce the population, shoot the sows.....they're the baby producing machines.

We are killing all the sows we can get. Just letting some of the better looking boars grow up. There is such a thing as a trophy even if it is a hog.

I have not seen him yet this season but i have not hunted very much yet. He was about 150 last year and he has been eating well. Yea he has a name also (booger red) The pictures make it kinda hard to judge his size. He has some real good looking traits. He normally has the hair on his back standing up and it makes his hump more pronounced. He is actually bigger than the black one i think. He is the boss around there for sure.

You may want to let "trophy" hogs grow up. Only problem I've had is that the bigger boars will run off deer. I've watched 3 sows with a total of maybe 15 piglets come down a lane and not bother the deer at all.

Then, I've had 20 deer feeding around me, and ONE big arse red boar ran every single deer off. Had no more deer come back the rest of the evening with that hog there.

I dont deer hunt at this stand site. I have other spots on my property where i hunt deer. I find if i feed alot at this stand it keeps the hogs around this stand and not so bad at my other stand sites.
