Is it legal to also have a rim fire rifle in your blind during gun deer season? I hate to waste a 243 round on coons and such but I am sure that would be cheaper than the fine for breaking a game law. I know it is illegal to shoot a deer with a rim fire rifle but I can find nothing that says you can/can't have one in your blind during deer gun season.

why wouldn't it be legal? I understand the legality of shooting deer with it, but when you have a .243 sitting next to you, its pretty obvious what the .22 is for. None the less, you can shoot all sorts of stuff outta your blind. If a warden had any beef with me about it, I'd simply tell him I'm hunting coons and squirrel too.
There is nothing wrong with having a .22 in the blind.

Thanks for the replies guys. Being fairly new to deer hunting I just wanted to make sure. I have found, in my 62 years, that many times laws have nothing to do with logic.

It is fine. Also legal to shoot quail with a 22. Know guys that pour milo out and shoot quail until around 4pm.

Yes it would be legal. There is nothing stated you can not have a .22 with you, as you know it just can't be used to shoot deer.
For archery season, they do not want you to have a firearm in your possession. Those are the only regulations I can see on the Texas Parks & Wildlife webpage.

We have a stand that we mix milo in with the corn when filling the feeder. I saw 57 turkeys out of that stand one morning. 2 groups came off the roost right in front of me. I've never killed one, but I think this year I might start carrying the .22 magnum with me on that stand.

Don't know about 22's, but I've shot plenty of turkeys with my 17.
coffee spelled backwards is eeffoc. I don't give eeffoc until I have my morning coffee.

Not meaning to hi-jack, but would it be legal to have a .22 with silencer on it in the stand with you. I can't see what the differece would be. I could eradicate vermin and not bother the deer.

From the TPWD website...
firearms equipped with silencers or sound-suppressing devices are NOT LEGAL
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

From the TPWD website...
firearms equipped with silencers or sound-suppressing devices are NOT LEGAL the other part of that quote is " for hunting state regulated game animals..... ie Deer, turkeys ect. Racoons, Rabbits, Hogs, Coyote, exotics, and the like are all fair game with a suppressed weapon. On the flip side....look at it this way, spot lighting hogs during deer season takes a lot of conviencing to stay out of trouble it would be the same with the suppressed .22. You really don't want that kind of trouble! I shoot suppressed 90% of the time the other 10% is deer season.
