I ran into a few old friends at the range yesterday and one one of then informed me of an accident he had last year. He somehow chambered a 308 round in his 25-06. (before anyone jumps on here and tells me it cant be done the different calibers does not matter.)The bullet made it halfway down the barrel and then changed its mind. All that energy came back in his face. The action was "welded shut" the barrel was cracked 4" and after removing the bullet, the only thing you could read on the bullet was a 3 and part of a 0.
Luckily, he was only temporarily blinded. It took him about 6 months to recover. Needless to say he and his buddies are alot more careful this year!
With rifle season getting started, and with some not checking their gear since they put it away last year, please check that all the bullets in your boxes are supposed to be in there. If you have multiple calibers at camp (as most do)double check your ammo before loading especially for the youngsters!
Wishing everyone a safe and successful hunt this weekend.

when I was 18, I sent a 30-06 thru a 7mm barrel. It wabbled down the shoot and sent some powder back at me. melted my right contact!
PS: I didn't intend to do it. So Mike is right. If you shoot several types, check your ammo.

I've seen a friend of mine shoot a 25.06 through his 30.06 on accident, it still shot. I guess he was lucky that the projectile was smaller than the cailber barrel, other wise it could have been bad.

Grabbed my 357 levergun the other day and stuffed the magazine full and levered one in and it slid out the end of the barrel. WTF. Looked and had grabbed the 45 levergun instead. Felt like a real dummy but the guns look just alike in a dark safe. bang

I am guilty just last year I loaded and fired a 270 out of my 7mag. Blew back in my face and I still have metal in my eye from it.

I was at the trap range and dropped a 20ga down my 1187. I was night we were shooting under lights. I pulled the bolt back and did not see anything so I dropped a 12ga in it with the 20ga still down the barrel.
Well it made a loud boom, fire, flames and OH SHET. Well the guns is in good shape and works fine. (do not try this at home LOL)

Man in Wolfe City last night had a 7mm Mag blow up in his face. No details yet. I am going to see it later today and see if we can tell what happened. He has a concussion and cuts/bruises and some hearing loss.

Safety glasses from work helped, but hearing protection would have been nice too.

Don't know yet....but I think the options are wrong ammo, or obstructed barrel

I used to shoot .20 caliber pellets out of my .22 caliber pellet gun. I used to always think something was wrong with my gun cause the pellets would just slide out if you put the barrel down. Finally figured that one out.

Have also heard a lot about 17 HMR semis blowing up. They have thin casings, so be careful when shooting these.

I pray that he is OK. Please let us know what you find out.
