There are not any good deer in N. Texas. Especially around Vernon. I hear the let the folks out of the state hospital around the opener to make sure no one ever comes back.

I have lived a little west of Vernon all my life. There were very few deer here before 1985 but we are covered up with them now. I have killed several in the 145 to 155 class . A mature 5 year will average 140 to 170 on horns and weigh from 160 to 200 plus pounds field dressed . The pease and red river in this area are known for deer size and mass . Not too many real wide deer but lots of mass . Property next to the Waggoner ranch is a good bet too. Farms with alfalfa and wheat that are close to creeks or river bottoms are a sure bet for a tag. Good luck !!!!!
