Anyone on here recently purchase 200 acres and hunting north of Sunset? PM me please. Nothing bad, just trying to get to know my new neighbors.

Postponed my hunt today due to rain and will go Friday. Hopefully less rain. Was hunting another place on the west county border Sunday and saw a huge buck but was shooting doe only. They hit the wheat big time. Feeders pretty slow except for doe and young bucks. Our older deer still avoid feeders this time of year and go to wheat to feed.

I've got an opportunity to get out and have br tomorrow. What's have the local conditions been in Nocona, anyone have anything to report? Any suggestions for making an all day hunt? Hunting feeders has yielded very poor results for the last couple of weeks. I'm thinking of trying a ground sit in some hardwoods if the ground is t too soupy.
Good luck, Merry Christmas

The phone intervened on my behalf. That should have been "...get out and hunt tomorrow"

I postponed again until Tuesday. If I was going to do an all day hunt, I would not do it from a stand where you only look at a feeder. Better bet would setup a ground blind where they travel. Looking at a feeder after corn is gone this time of year is pointless. Tomorrow looks great.

Heads up....second rut seems to be on. Went out last night to pig hunt and had a nice 8pt come running in grunting and chasing does. When the does left, he put his head down like a dog tracking and followed where they went.

Group of toms came in and ate most of corn and deer squeezed their way in. 6 pt, tall spike and nubbin. Nubbin and spike were same size so I was not giving son the green light. Plus sister was using restroom below us. Corn was gone in 5 minutes. Will try to find a doe in morning for him.

On cam, seen jack. Just little bucks and some doe. Crap load of turkey as usual. Hardly a pig anymore. About to fill the fenced feeders so will know more then. Had some giants killed right next to us last year we had on cam. Rains been pretty good compared other areas which hurts hunting.

I've been waiting on someone to kick us off. I pulled cards this weekend and found a good fawn crop, healthy doe herd and several bucks that survived last season. Their growth this year seems to be pretty nice. Pics to come as I can get them uploaded.

That's the only picture I had of him but apparently my feeder hadn't been running for a while. Put a new one up last weekend and will probably go back up there next weekend. Looking forward to your trail pics.

Nice looking buck, def a shooter. Are you feeding protein or just corn at your place in Nocona?

Thanks H-C, and I agree. I hope he presents and opportunity this season. I passed several times last year and it paid off. This is the first year in the out of a 5 year streak that I haven't fed protein, pigs at the retaining lip off of my gravity feeder this summer and I haven't made time to fix/replace.

Yeah pigs sure can do some damage. I had to replace my corn feeder and put hog panels up last year. Needless to say, all of my pictures now are deer but I still get plenty of shots at pigs as they graze on the outside of the feeder. I feel your pain. We feed protein year round and corn (obviously) and rice bran on the ground sometimes. We have certainly seen major results in feeding protein but it's way much more costly. Since we just have a gravity feeder, the deer eat at all times of the night resulting in night pics but not showing up during the day. I've been looking into the hammer feeding system (protein timer) to regulate when protein is available so it would cut costs so the does are eating all night long. http://www.thehammerfeeder.com/ Has anyone seen the Hammer Feeder or know anyone that has used it?

Some good looking bucks there. Which direction from Nocona are you? We are not seeing much on cam yet. One barely legal 9 or 10 and doe. Need to get the feeders running.

I expect to fill feeders and dump some rice bran about the middle of September. The hogs will appreciate it. And, I’m butt deep in hogs.

I hunt just north of Nocona. Haven't seen many deer, and only two bucks in velvet. One might be legal come the season. Seeing lots of hogs, and this is the first time in three years. Also seeing turkeys on the camera almost every morning. First time for the turkeys there.
This property has only one oak tree, so no acorns to speak of. Lots of mesquite, and some wild plums.
