One more thing - it's worth considering the merits of the Hornady 75 BTHP if you can get it up above 2800 fps. The BC is .395, which is really high for a .224 bullet. The drop and wind drift numbers are worse than bigger bullets (like FGMM 308 for instance), but not in a completely different ballpark or anything. I think at 1000 yards, I ran the numbers and bullet drop was basically the same and the FGMM 308 only had about 20" less wind drift at 1000 yards. Now FGMM isn't the best long distance 308 round, but it does show you what kind of performance you can get out of a 223 if you want to.

Of those listed, .22-250 Remington. I shoot a factory 20" #2 1:14" barrel and it stabilizes the lighter bullets great and even does good on the 64gr Power Points. If you get a faster twist then you can really load up some sub 4000fps grenades in the higher grained bullets.

As someone else said, 6.5 Creedmoor. I've killed a bunch of deer sized (and bigger and smaller) game with my aforementioned .22-250 but if you want to kill stuff at farther distances that's bigger than a coyote, I'd say step up to the 6.5. Farthest kill I've had was an axis doe at 200ish yd shooting 55gr VMAX. Super dead, but took 20min to find, and no blood trail.

Tikka is a great option. Remington is great as well. I don't know how the Savage Axis is but I've used a few 11/111 Trophy Hunter XPs that did decently, but not as good as my older Weatherby Vanguards. Wouldn't discount the Ruger American either, been reading a lot of great stuff about it on the Forum.

I've always been partial to the .243, planning on new bbl in 1-8 to shoot the 105 gr. VLD's. Always wanted a .22-250 for varmints (and may get one someday) but feel the .243 comes out on top when you throw longer range shooting into the mix. P_102

I beg to differ. I just ordered one with an 8 twist.

You can order one here by contacting the OP.
