Dollar for dollar You can't beat the Nikon Conquest. I have a 2.5-10x42 on it's way to me now. I purchased it off of ebay for $275 shipping included and it is NIB. If you are not in a gosh awful hurry some great bargins can be found on ebay.

You can only expect those who spend a lot of money for something to say it's worth every penny. Just rememebr that whatever you spend on a scope, it will do nothing to improve your shooting and marksmanship. Much of the cost of any scope is what it costs the manufacturer to produce the glass. And the performance (and cost) of the glass is dependant on it's efficiency in allowing light to pass through it. Manufacturing processes have gotten so good that you need not spend a fortune to get a scope that is more than sufficient to make any shot that you will ever face. It's just a matter of how close to "perfect" you want the image to appear. Personally, I don't use my scope to add shooting time to any hunt. I just don't consider it safe to do so.
IMO, unless you're trying to feel like one of those police snipers you see on TV or the movies, $400 will get you all the scope you'll ever need. Spend more than that, and you're buying something with glass that would be better served in a camera.

Just put a new Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14X44 MC with the Rapid Z 800 reticle on a Tikka 270 for my son. Incredible scope for the money! For what you are describing I don't think you can beat these scopes. The glass is ultra clear, and the Rapid Z reticle is very simple to use. All takes range time to calibrate hold over and windage marks to your caliber but this reticle is far better than the Nikon's BDC and Leupold B&C. Take a look at all of them side by side and see the clarity. Good luck!

Burris and Leupold will do fine. Go with the best you can afford and dont worry about the rest. If spending 1000.00 to 1500.00 doesnt bother you get a Swarvo. BMD is going to get schooled in shooting this fall. He can't handle the Savage 223 topped with a Leupold. Prairie dogs fear me!!!!!

What will the rifle be used for? I guess to me it doesn't matter. I would go with a Leupold any day of the week no matter if the gun is for Hunting, Competition, or just punching paper on the weekends. BEST warranty in the business. Lifetime, no matter what the issue. You drop it and it the glass breaks, or you run over it with the truck. They will repair or replace it. Plus they have very generous eye relief for the heavier recoiling rifles to help avoid the scope eye scar that everyone tries to hide.
FOR SURE

Cody, is this going to be mounted on your AR-15?
No sir, 22-250 in 700 SPS
I love my 22-250! That is such fun round to shoot. I have a Savage M12 26" heavy barrel. I didn't know better when I bought the scope, and I put a $200.00+ Bushnell banner 6-24x40 on it. (older and wiser I would have bought a Leupold or Nikon)
That rifle will still put 5 rounds on a snuff can lid at 200. So I guess what I'm saying is if you need to put it in service before you have the money for a better scope, the Bushnell will get you by.

you get what you pay for, just like anything else. bought cheaper scopes for years cause i said you were just paying for the name on the side, WRONG! put them side by side and you will see the difference, especially at extended ranges and low light conditions(legal low light conditions).

I agree with you. That banner is called dusk and dawn. It does well in low light, but my 3-9x40 Nikon does better for sure. I was just meaning to use the less expensive scope in the mean time if needed.

Leupold hands down!!!! Although you can't go wrong with those euro scopes! But still would go leupold! If you ever have problems return it and they will replace or fix it within a couple of weeks or less! What more can you ask for? Some of those other lifetime guarantes from those other company's are not really lifetime! You will have to almost spend and entire week on explaining what happened or what kind of paperwork or receipts you have before they will fix anything, and trust me on this one! Leupold you need nothing just send it back!

I just got my new Leupold 3.5X10X50 VX3-L on my 30-06. This is the new one for 2009. I have a VX-III and the VX3 has significantly better clarity than the VX-III. It has the illuminated boone and crockett reticle and I paid $869 at Bear Basin Outfitters. I also have a Nikon Monarch 5X20X44SF that is just as clear at 1/2 the price. I am a little nervous about the Nikon warranty though compared to Leupold. My favorite overall though sits on my Sig 556. It is an IOR Valdada 4X25 illuminated reticle 223BDC scope. It is hands down the best I have seen for a semi 223 and was $525 at SWFA.
