I interviewed at BassPro shop in Rockwall right after graduating from college in Spring 2009. I had already determined that the pay didn't really justify the travel to the store for me. I did the interview anyways, though, and the final interview was with the store manager. He was supposed to hire you on the spot or you wouldn't get the job. He was trying to explain that basspro took pride in having "much better customer service" than cabelas and other competitors. He asked me a question, and I said something like, "I've always gotten excellent customer service at Cabelas. They know what their talking about and are usually pretty helpful." The interview ended shortly thereafter and I was told I'd get a call soon.
I've always preferred Cabelas. I hope that they don't change the store and concept much because I think they do a pretty good job for a big box store of serving folks like me.

That's surprising - I would have thought it would have been the other way around. Guess BP is stouter than I thought (I buy almost nothing from them).
Can't imagine they would change much externally about Cabela's if the deal does go through. Both in-store and internet sales have to be good unless I am totally missing something. Strong is a relative term into day's market.

That article pretty much explains it all. When they went public they became vulnerable.

Wonder if we can get Sportmans Warehouse to come back into the Texas market...IMO they were/are better than both BPS & Caberlla's put together, and have weathered the downsizing and crunch...Gander next ??? Just Sayin' Ron X2 I loved that store better quality on everything. same here But on another note they announced that they are opening a Cabelas at the Hood Cabela’s is coming to Fort Hood

Strong is a relative term into day's market. There you go BOBO, bringing "relatives" into it I'm living it. We got bought out by a smaller public company three years ago. So far it's been great for those of us that had equaty prior to the buy out. It is frustrating when you are posting 25% year over year growth but Gross margin didn't meet analyst expectations so your stock price takes a hit. I get the orginal IPO of Cabela's. If it is Bass pro who buys it, it will be for the betterment of Cabela's going private again. Cabelas isn't bleeding just not meeting analyst expectations.
