Some here would cry if they knew the birds Phil killed back in his hay day. Was it fun hunting with Phil? Is he as dry in person as he appears to be on TV? Very little research and you'll find that the feds burnt his blind to the ground and deemed that hole a sanctuary after years of chasing him through the swamps.

Im not a huge duck commander fan, but that is some serious ducking street credit if the feds have to burn your blind and make your hole a sanctuary.

Why is it ok to shoot lead and way over your limit all of a sudden. (Twice, and under probation time)
Cause he was 67 yr old and need food to eat?
Come on man, i know u know better Yep...I'm really surprised that so many people think this penalty is too harsh. The rules are the rules....if all people got was a really minor slap on the wrist when they were caught poaching (especially repeat offenders), we probably wouldn't have enough ducks left to hunt in 50 years. This guy apparently didn't get the message the first time when he was fined $5000 and given probation. It is also about getting other people to follow the laws. If they can send a 67 year old to prison, it sends a message to all other hunters that they can be next. The punishment is also known as self compliance, there will be quite a few that will straighten up their act on their own, just because they now realize that it could have been them send to prison. As with most cases of law breakers, most criminals think they are smarter than LEO and won't get caught. This guy has become a poster "child" for LEO. Whew! I was beginning to wonder about this section. Hardly ever swing by here. Was beginning to look like the poacher's section.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

Somehow it's ok to go into Mexico and shoot that same pile of whistlers with lead shot. Or 48 sprigs anyone who thinks it is morally reprehensible to shoot 48 ducks at home but would go to Mexico and burn them down just because it is legal is guilty of asshattery of the highest order. I'd go as far as to say that a person that whacks em that hard in old mexico is bound to whack em that hard back home. I'll go even farther and say this is one of the most asinine comments i've ever seen in the forum.

Agree. It's child behavior 101. Natural and logical consequences for everything that we choose to do.

I should qualify my statements...I'm not saying shooting 48 mottled ducks is ok, but 48 ringers or mallards is not to bad in the big scheme of things
Attention rickym, this is not a troll post, just a good hearted fun type of post

What if I was an amateur taxidermist looking for that perfect mottled duck and therefore routinely shot way over the limit trying to end my quest?

I can remember when I was a kid and I could go down to wal mart and buy a box of duck and pheasant load #4 lead shot. You remember, the ones that had the duck on one side and the pheasant on the other? Maybe these old dudes had some of these old boxes of shells laying around and didn't see the pheasant and lead shot part. Ha ha
That #4 lead sure did work good on them ducks and was a lot cheaper. I do realize how lead took its toll on the waterfowl in the way of poisoning them. When I was a kid, I used to walk around with a pellet gun in short shorts, tennis shoes with no socks, in rattlesnake country, with a mouthful of lead pellets in my lip like a chew because I didn't have any pockets and I didn't have any socks to put them in either. My buddy said he used to do the same thing and he's about 15yrs older than me. Maybe that's why we're both a little throwed off. We didn't know lead was poisonous.
Recently got a gym membership, strange folks! I like to show up the roid zombies with my full motion curls with the 55lb. bells. Not their cheater short stroked light weights. It's holarious.
