Lets hear your duck band count, and any duck band stories you wish to post...

I got one, the duck gods were on my side that day, 2007/08 seasons hunting public a metromess lake! It was the only duck I shot that day!

Banded ducks = 0, Banded snow goose = 1

Back in highschool we had access to a friend of ours place that had some corn fields. We had a few big rains and some parts of the fields were flooded, so we decided to skip out on hunting my place and head to theirs for a change of scenery. I think that was quite possibly the BEST hunt of my life. Four limits of ducks (only time I have ever shot a full limit of greenheads), and four limits of snow geese. First goose I dropped was banded. Never will forget it. I wish I would have had enough sense to take pictures of that hunt back then, but the memory is more than vivid still.

7 mallards
2 woodies
7 canadas.

The ducks were all shot in the same season in California, on the same hunt club where i did a banding project the previous summer. I banded three of the mallards i shot. rofl The rest were banded in previous years in the same general area, so I really don't consider them "trophies" but they still look good on the lanyard. Especially the 2 $100 reward bands nuts

The geese were shot over 3 years in Michigan. Most of them came from the Hudson bay.

I have been lucky so far in my young waterfowling career. I have 2 bands so far in 3 years. The first was a banded mottle duck that came 3 years ago on the last weekend of the season. I didnt even realize that the bird was banded till the end of the hunt. It was taken at the Anahuac Wildlife Refuge. At the time I dont think I realized how speacial that was and didnt even get it mounted but did get a couple of pics.

My second band came from a banded redhead that was taken out of Rockport last January on the last weekend of the season. The bird was taken out of a group of over a hundred redheads. This time I realized how speacial the bands are and got this one mounted. The only thing that I was upset about is that the band was to old and worn out to get any information off of.

1487-35420-Mallard-----Dec8,2007----Butler,Ok------------1997--
I was hunting a small lake next to a peanut field in Davidson, Oklahoma. Single mallard comes in and I take it. Banded Alzada Mt. Almost one year later to the day I was invited by a Ducks Unlimited Chairman to hunt his Duck Club lake near Thackerville, Oklahoma. He said since I was his guest I got first shot. A single greenhead comes in and I take it. Banded. I get to work call in the number and then enter the number in my hunting notes. I could not believe what I was seeing. I shot the very next number. Consecutive band numbers in Consectutive years at lakes 100 miles apart. I dont even want to try and figure the odds on that.
They are the Third and Fourth bands from the top Right.

Are you supposed to keep those things? I always just throw them away with the duck.

You guys actually keep the little leg bands?

I've probably thrown a dozen away.
