I am just starting to bow hunt and need to purchase a bow. I was looking for advice on a bow thats going to be durable and not a piece of junk for the best buck. Can anyone point me in the right direction or give advice? thanks

I would say get a package bow from BassPro or Cabelas. I would suggest going to Smithfield Archery and let Stan and Rhonda set you up with a Hoyt

Mathews is the only way to go.

If you have the money go to a pro shop and get set up. They have good used bows there set up ready to hunt and can work with you to get you set up and on target at a reasonable price. Your profile doesn't say where you are so it's hard to direct you to a good place but if you are around Fort Worth Smithfield can help you. West of Fort Worth go to Daves in Weatherford. Other than that I'm not against going to BP or Cabelas or the like but you still will pay a lot for a decent set up. Used bows at pro shops will often be great bows, a couple or three years old with out much usage and at a great price.

Pidgoen Road is the greatest. Stephenville. Mathews are for guys who want to look good. X Force if for shooting animals.

well im not actually from texas im from st louis and i was kind of in the middle of the road on whether to go to an archery shop or to like bass pro or cabelas. im trying not to go over 800 so can that narrow it down for what to get?

You can do very well at a pro shop or the others. I would say if you go to Smithfield though the airfare will eat up a lot of that.

Go to a pro shop. Get a good used set up. Unless you are an odd size (really short draw length) you will be able to sell if you see you don't like. "Box Bows" from Big chains do not do very well after market. Good pro shops are also great places to get good info and usually provide good aftersale service. There are alot of good bows out there alot of the deal is having someone who knows set it up and tune it for you.

I can save you some money and ship it to you. Just deside on what you would like. For a good starter bow I would look at the diamond black ice. I can set you up ready to hunt for well under your 800 budget.

depending on your price range and passion for the sport. i would suggest going to a good bow shop and get a good used bow, that fits you and will hunt. this way you can trade up if it turns into an obsession. nothin like gettin in close and he don't even know you there. be quick and be quiet. good luck. hope you get what you want.

Go shoot every bow you can then decide. If you have to go to several different places then do it!

Buy what works for you.

Im with passthru, go to a good bow shop and they will let you try em before buyiing one. Cant go wrong with hoyt, bowtech, or mathews. all good bows!

Get a good, but cheap package, shoot and see if its for you. Some guys get into bow hunting and just dont like it. Then there's guys like me, who will never touch my rifle again.
After a year or so, if its what you want to do, then look at the better brand bows.

Just remember, any bow you pick will only be about 1% of the bowhunting equation.

The other 99% is learning how to hunt with it. Any experienced bowhunter could pick up the cheapest bow at wal-mart and still kill deer with it. But, if you need the mental confidence, buying an expensive bow may give you that.

If you have the money, get a good one. You'll just have to get one and shoot it for a while before you can really tell what you like. Mine is loud and fast, and I thought that was cool when trying it out - but after hunting a few years I want something that's quieter and smooth, even if it is slower.
