hello guys im new to this site but have been around reading all of the great advice everyone has given. im farely new to hunting, i have hunted dove for the past 3 years but never have had the privlage of hunting deer. this year should be a big change for me, I just purchased 82 acers on the paint mare ranch in dryden tx, i was wondering if there was anoyone that hunts out there or that has any experince with that part of west tx as in when the rut starts and anything else that would be helpful for a beginer.
thanks.

Do not no the area, but wanted to say welcome and enjoy your time afield.
If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

Late november is rut. Pre rut is really like a week before thanksgiving. Bucks will start pushing doe around thanksgiving and be full rut within 1-2 weeks. This all varies by about 1-2 weeks of course. This year we had lots of rain, I have no clue whats going to happen. Hopefully we'll get a hard freeze quick to knock this greenery out. Corn isn't all that interesting to our deer right now.
I'm just up from you in Pandale. You're a little further west, you should be getting some mule deer in your parts. If you'd like some help out there, shoot me a private message, I know the west texas parts quite well. Your only down fall is you've only got 82 acres...and you're in big country.

Congrats on your purchase. I hope you have a great season. I'm curious to see some pics of that area. I believe tracts from that ranch have been listed for sale for a few years now. Almost every land for sale in Texas will include the words "good hunting". Pictures from your neighbors can only prove this. I may be wrong, but, I think you are going to need a lot more than 82 acres in that part of the state to get "your own deer herd". What I'm trying to say is (and I may be wrong) that area is wide open. You will probably see your neighbors blinds, on both sides of you, if not all sides. Get to talkin to your neighbors and maybe see if they are management minded. Hopefully together you can build a healthy herd.
