Just landed a new lease in Schleicher county this year. i was previously hunting Brown county and had a few 135's taken off of it. When is the peak rut typically start in Schleicher county, and what size deer can be expected?

I am in Schleicher County too. Rutting time is usually between Thanksgiving and Christmas. We are on the western end of the county off HWY 190. Deer in the 160's are not uncommon. You should not have trouble getting a nice 8pt or better. If these deer live to see 4.5 or 5.5 they get really big.

The county is really underrated and has a great population.
Good luck

what highlonesome1 said. i hunted 6+ yrs about 6 miles east of Eldorado off 190. Our average mature buck was around 125. We had seen bigger though. lots of turkeys. i miss hunting out that way.

forgot to add. we always planned our vacation for the 1st week of December and always caught the rut. where we hunted, we had always seen new deer during the rut.
