We have a small piece of property in the hill country north of San Antonio. The owner doesn't want corn to be fed during deer season because a lot of axis deer are coming to the feeder and he thinks it's pushing the whitetails out. Please comment. If I can't feed corn, what can I feed to attract the axis deer to shoot them instead?

The feeder is not what is causing the problem. The axis are there already.

Hammer the dog snot out of the Axis 365xdaylight and they will go nocturnal...then the WT's can get sumthin to eat out of the daylight settings on the feeder. JMHO Ron

AWESOME! Axis taste a hell of a lot better than whitetails anyway! Year around hunting, lots of meat for the freezer, beautiful capes to sell if you don't want them. Heck, sounds like you got it made.
If the landowner wants them off his property the only way to do that would be to high fence. They are all over the place in that part of Texas. You won't be able to keep them out. But that can be a big cost so that's probably not likely to happen.
Putting the pressure on the axis by hunting them in the day will put just as much on the whitetails. I don't see that plan working all that well from my experiences with them. Hunting pressure is just that, and it will effect all animals in the area. You will probably get a lot of the whitetails going nocturnal as well. You might try it with a bow only and see how that goes as opposed to rifle. If they do go nocturnal, you can hunt the axis at night legally, but during deer season, that is not too good of an idea.
Best of luck to you, but honestly it sounds like your situation isn't all that bad considering the opportunities you should have to put meat on the table.

JMHO Ron I was told on another post that they can be hunted at night as well. They're too prolific to control very well (like hogs) and they sure do eat good.

they co exist out on my place. the axis usually beat the whitetail to the feeders. and they usually do push the whitetail around a little. I got an awesome video last year of a small axis and whitetail fighting hardcore. its on youtube, just search axis vs. whitetail. the fight was really good before i got my camera out. but the last few minutes are still pretty good

When I hunted the Baker 3 ranch the whitetails ruled even when the axis came in to feed too.
