Hey everyone, long time no post…

Just wondering if anyone loads for 7mm PRC and if you’ve found any good loads using powder that can be had these days. Reloader 25 and 26 are non existent, so wondering if anyone has a pet load of another powder they are willing to share.

I will be doing load development for a Bergara B14, when I can find powder. Have sourced brass, bullets, primers, but powder is scarce or outrageously priced…

TIA

Hey Chad, I’ll be loading 160gr+ bullets initially trying to find a good hunting load with good accuracy and speed.

Powders, I have no idea at this point. Never loaded a “magnum” or used the powders that hornady lists for the 7mm PRC.
Hornady lists:
Reloader 22, 23, 25, 26
H 4831SC, 1000
IMR 7828SSC, 7977
VIHT N-560, N-165
Mag pro

All with varying speeds so really just looking for a starting point without having to buy and try every powder I can find.

I do not, and never will load the 7 PRC, but if I intended to I can tell you that based on QuickLOAD, H1000 would be my first choice. Alliant powders are great, but availability is in question. I think H1000 has been more available lately, and I know it's a great powder. You might sacrifice 50 to 100 fps for it, but that is nothing...and often enough a powder that offers greater velocity potential does not provide accuracy at top velocity.

Here's what QuickLOAD has to offer as far as powder suggestions (I've filtered out powders we do not see in the US and limited the results to the choices offering top velocities).

Code
Cartridge : 7 mm PRC
Bullet : .284, 160, Nosler PART SP 16327
Useable Case Capaci: 77.126 grain H2O = 5.008 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 3.090 inch = 78.49 mm
Barrel Length : 24.0 inch = 609.6 mm

Powder type Filling/Loading Ratio Charge Charge Vel. Prop.Burnt P max P muzz B_Time

I don’t load the 7mm prc but I do have a sealed 5lb keg of reloder 25 I would sell. If that’s a powder you are interested in?

I know where you can get a pound of H1000. It was VERY expensive, like $100. crying

I have used most of the powders you liked above. Something in the H1000 burn rate works well. I'd stay away from the MagPro and R22 powders (too temp sensitive) unless you want Ricky Bobby loads. I would also include Retumbo, Staball HD, VV N565 and VV N570. The 7 PRC and 7 Rem Mag are almost identical, so any powders that work well in one, will work well in the other.

Thanks, looks like I’m able to procure some RL25 so will be doing load development with it after I get my scope mounted and rifle sighted in. 1 step at a time…

Midway has it for $65. I guess if you just bought one pound, it would be $100 with shipping and hazmat.

If you are willing to drive to The Colony, Scheel has H1000 for $56/lb and Staball HD for $49. Way cheaper than midway or other online store when including hazmat/shipping.

Not bad. I don’t think Buzz has a cartridge that takes H1000. He lives in Frisco so Scheels is just down the street for him.

You buy a 7 PRC? I thought you were down to just the 6.5 Creedmoor for a hunting rifle.

Use the Scheels website to search for items available at the store. If the website shows and it is not there with the sticker is because someone forgot to put the sticker or they just got it. If the website shows asks for an employee with the handheld scanner to check the availability or check the storage room.

By the way they are running a 15% off sale on powder and primer this weekend.
