Sad story. I hope the DA/Grand Jury show compassion. He is in a better place and they will see each other on the other side. Florida Woman Shoots Terminally Ill Husband of 50 Years

Saw this on the news this morning, mixed feelings on this, but sympathize with the couple somewhat.

See, this is the kind of case that begged for Dr Kevorkian. If you're terminally ill and suffering, you should have the right to choose to check out.

Hopefully she will plea out, and get probation but I highly doubt it.

They should have just sat in the garage with the car running holding each other as they went to the other side.

I think my wife loves me enough to do this, or heck after 30 years she'd probably do it if I didn't ask her. Seriously though, I could not ask the person that I love more than anything in this world to do something like that. This ladies life is over, no matter how good her intentions were, if that is the case.

I wonder why he just didn't do it himself? The article did not mention the nature of his failing health and impending doom.

Read another article where he was too weak to do it himself.

My dad had an old boss that was like a 2nd father to him. Him and his wife were in their late 80s and in pretty good health until the wife was diagnosed with cancer. One day she sent her husband of 60+ years to the store to pick up a few things and stuck a .22 pistol to her chest. 6 months later he was riddled with cancer and passed away.

Very sad. She will have to live with that from now on. Even if it's the right thing she will be forever scarred. We should be able to chose and not have to consider action such as this.

See, this is the kind of case that begged for Dr Kevorkian. If you're terminally ill and suffering, you should have the right to choose to check out. I don’t disagree with you however that decision is only going to be if you have your mental faculties. If you have a long term illness that takes your ability to make decisions there will be very few if any Dr’s or courts that will sign off on it. Even if someone at the beginning of their illness were it put it in writing that at a certain point in the illness they want some to end their suffering it won’t happen. The main reason for that is who if anyone has a financial gain from the persons passing. In my opinion I think that after the wife killed her husband why she didn’t put the gun down and had a four hour standoff with the police is because she was hoping that they would shoot her to end her suffering and to be with her husband. I agree with Sapper the way to handled this was for them to sit in the car. There is no way I could do this to my wife and I’m glad that the police didn’t have to shoot her. There is a good movie that touches on this called “Me before you” and is kind of a chick flick.

To bad they could not come up with a better way of ending his life other than getting her to shoot him, the thought of having to point a gun at someone you love, pull the trigger, hearing the blast of the gun and seeing the physical damage caused by the bullet (Blood etc) would be hard to live with. Maybe make him a drink that he likes laced with Cyanide or something.

My honest opinion. Death is God's timing just like everything else. It's tough to watch your loved ones suffer, but dying is all part of the deal. Yes, this is easy for me to say as a relatively young, healthy person. I've seen people of faith suffer "well" through unbelievably tough, painful circumstances. Their perseverance and faith has spurred me on, and I hope that I can conduct myself that well when my time comes.
Now, if you believe that death is the end, and this life is the best there is, then none of the above applies to you.
"Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom." - Ecclesiastes 9:10

I have to believe there are those who have passed peacefully from a lethal dose of morphine. The words "Don't ask, don't tell" no doubt apply here, and I've never heard of a family member being prosecuted for being a part of such a thing.

A Democracy is when two wolves and a lamb vote on the dinner menu. That is why this country was specifically not designed as a Democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic.

Yep, went through it with my dad. Thank god it was only one night. But the fact is, doctors gave up trying to figure out what was going on so they sent him home with hospice, all they did was dope him up with morphine every 2 hours (I had to give it to him through the night) and he passed around noon the next day . But on another note, here we are 7 years later with mom next door and going downhill fast, we have "hospice help" and it has been great, the nurse comes 2 times a week and the aid comes 3 times a week, so it has been a great help to us (mostly my wife). I think there should be a way for someone that isn't going to get better, to get some help ending it. For their sake and their family.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

I believe we've had a few hospice people on here and the TFF. The way they explained it was the goal is to keep the patient calm and pain free. In the end, the patient might die from the illness or medication.

In the end, the patient might die from the illness or medication. We’ve been through this more times than I care to count…ultimately it is a decision between sanctify of life vs. quality of life. I have many family members advancing well beyond 90…a couple passed the century mark… For some it’s torment….others “just another day”… While I agree with the practice that every life is sacred and should be preserved….the simple face remains, we are all terminal….some before becoming infants, others centurions… Sometimes life is what you make of it….for others, it’s what life makes of you… In my humble opinion, at a certain point, it’s no longer the “states” decision, it solely rests with the individual and their family… Jes sayin… That being said, most urgent prayers for that lady and their family
