TEXAS OUTDOOR CHILD

by Denny Vasquez

Texas Outdoor Child is non-profit organization whose mission is providing hunting, fishing and outdoor adventures for young people from 8 to 20 years old that were or are currently experiencing a terminal illness or have been in a life altering incident. “Challenged Hunters Involved In Living Dreams”

Early in 2007 a group of dedicated individuals joined together to form a new organization in Texas whose purpose is to grant the dreams of terminally ill youngsters or those that had experienced a life altering event that involve going on a hunting or fishing dream trips.

This group of caring individuals has developed a history here in the Lone Star state for providing these types of events over the last few years. For some of them the experience goes back 25+ years while others have been involved in these efforts for the last 5+ years. So using the expertise, contacts and resources developed over this time period they decided to take their efforts to the next level in order to better serve the increasing number of youngsters who have begun approaching them about providing their dream trip.

TOC has already gotten off to a running start with donations and support received from such organizations as the Exotic Wildlife Association, the West Texas Rehab Center, the Trophy Game Records of the World record keeping system as well as many ranches, corporations and individuals. TOC plans to utilize this support to continue providing trips for these special young people.

The requests made by the youngsters who have gone through the verification process involve trips for adventures involving whitetail deer, axis deer, blackbuck antelope and any other species that the youngsters can dream of. These hunts have been scheduled on ranches from the Texas hill country to west Texas to East Texas and all points in between that have donated the use of their facilities and the animals to be hunted.

Once the youngster has been accepted for the program they are put in touch with a TOC volunteer that then insures the success of their trip.
These volunteers will also accompany the youngster and their parents along on the adventure. These trips are provided at no cost to the youngster and their parents.

If you know of a child who has or is experiencing a life threatening, disease or life altering event and would like to be able to live out their dream hunting, fishing or other outdoor related experience please pass on this information to them and have them contact Texas Outdoor Child or let one of the board members know and they will be glad to contact them directly.

Please do not let a child’s dream go unrealized! Help us in helping them make their dreams come true!!

If you are interested learning more about what you can do to help the folks at Texas Outdoor Child insure that each child with a life threatening, disease or life altering event live out their dream, please contact one our directors for more information. We can use financial donations as well as good and services. For example a donation of groceries to cover a meal, lodging, taxidermy work, meat processing, travel expenses, shipping expenses or the donation of a hunting opportunity for one of the youngsters in need.
