Any calls, texts or direct emails would be greatly appreciated. cell 214-274-0837 email: gary@garyredman.com
I have a two year old Labrador. Over the summer, my wife and I noticed him slightly limping. Two local veterinarians (Dr. Tate & Dr. Vandermeer) said he possibly had a slight tear of his cranial cruciate ligament. We put him on very light duty and and anti-inflammatory meds for a couple of weeks. He seemed to get better quickly, but we were cautious for a couple of months. He hasn't limped ever since, but he sits awkward (leg out) and sometimes we see him placing more weight on one leg while standing.
Before duck/pheasant season, I had planned to have him checked again by both vets. Last week, my wife said she heard a "popping" as he walked up the stairs. I had never heard this noise. On Saturday, my dog and I went to the park and he moderately ran/played. Once we returned home, I heard a significant "pop" noise as he took each step up the stairs. It felt like it was in his hip. The popping reoccured on Sunday, and after feeling, it is coming from his knee (stifle area).
I took him to the vet at 3 p.m. today (City Vet at Preston/Royal, Dr. Tate). Dr. Tate did xrays and said he had a meniscal injury and a possible CCL tear. Dr. Tate referred me to Dallas Veterinarian Surgery Center and said it was very likely that a surgery was necessary.
Can someone please recommend a VERY good orthopedic surgeon? And, any opinion or suggestions on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Gary Redman 214-274-0837

Dallas Veterinarian Surgery Center is probably the top place in the area with the best specialists IMO. I wouldn't hesitate to use them for my labs if the need ever arose. My wife is in the vet med field and thinks very highly of them as well as Dr. Tate.

DVSC is great so don't hesitate to go there if it was recommended. Our Vet recommends Dr. Dean at http://mustangvet.com . He did a TPLO on our dog and did a great job.

Dr Whitney (Gulf Coast in Houston) has seen my dogs for any ortho problem. Dr Mary Tatum who does most of the OFA, and PennHIP xrays in the Houston area, is who recommended him to me. I really liked him, and was thankful mine didn't require surgery. Wasn't there a Dr Adcock closer to Dallas that a lot of retriever people had been using. Maybe send a message to Angie and ask about him.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.
