Hey all, this is my first year hunting waterfowl, trying to figure out what shotgun shells I should buy. I've got my grandpa's 16 gauge he gave me, and 12 gauge mossberg I got for Christmas last year, any suggestions?

12 gauge, easier to find shells for. What kind of 16 gauge?
There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

Before shooting Grandpa's 16 gauge, be sure it can handle steel shot etc. If it's an older gun, it's not advisable to fire the high velocity modern shells through the gun, as you can ruin the barrel, forcing cone, etc. Start by figuring out what year it was made (make, model, and serial number will get you there).
Stick with the Mossberg 12ga and use #3s or #4s.

I would personally not take a gun like that if it has any sentimental value. Duck hunting can take a toll on a gun and I would hate to have it rust or get damaged.

He could buy Bizmuth for his Grandfathers shotgun but like Abe, I wouldn't want in the swamp

Stick with the Mossberg 12ga and use #3s or #4s. This. I have grandpa's16 ga as well, can't shoot steel in it, and it's a full choke. I use #4 year round, #3 do too much damage to the bird for my liking. My first waterfowl gun was a mossberg 12ga, shot it for years and never cleaned it.
