Had friends in from out of state for 4 days and all they wanted was some wigeon for mounts.

Since Centex is a barren wasteland for ducks this year, I reached out to some friends out west and put a plan together.

Day one- huge success......or not...

Day two got on a friends place holding some geese.

Had a little fun with a collar I had made.

Day two afternoon tried bumping birds off and setting up and had pretty good success.

Day three and we got me. 26/36 birds shot were drake wigeon.

Day 4 came home and hunted a new property we just bought jan 1 and were surprised by the hundreds of redheads that showed while we were gone.

Best pic of the whole trip.

I guess you found where a lot of our Wigeons have been holding out. I hunt in Hamilton County and usually widgeon make up a large part of what we shoot, I have shot very few and seen much less than normal throughout the county. Surprisingly the predominant duck in our county this year is pintails. In fact had multiple hunts in which we killed our Pintail limit quickly and watched hundreds of pintails piling in to the decoys. Fun to watch but wish we could shoot a little more...I wouldn't say that our county is a barren wasteland for ducks but much fewer than I was hoping for with all the water. I'm betting it has something to do with all the flooded field north of us in Northwest Texas and Oklahoma, along with the very mild winter, but that's just my two cents. Glad you found some... Headed out to kill some more pintails in the morning

That explains where our pintails are. We normally shoot 150+\year and this year we've shot less than 10.
