Just got onto a lease off of Highway 90 between Sanderson and Dryden. We began feeding protein/corn and are pleased with the results from last December until now! We have seen primarily Mule Deer with 30% whitetail and an elk that passed through for about 3 months. Quail have been in good numbers as well as dove. Any suggestions in hunting mule deer as the season approaches in a week and any reports from other lessees/owners in the area would be beneficial!

Also there is plenty of water by water trough and man-made holding tank. I've hunted out west before and have been successful driving around while glassing

I would suggest driving or walking around until you see one and then shoot it.

How many acres are you hunting? Any canyons/draws?
Mule deer love protein and alfalfa.
We had a place in Dryden and the mule deer would come & go, we always had quite a few more after mule deer season was over. I guess the guys down by the river pushed the mule deer out during hunting season or maybe the rut had them moving.
They have a hunters supper the second Saturday of mule deer season in Sanderson at the Baptist church. Open to all and they have some fantastic prizes. We won several guns over the years, top prize is usually a UTV of some sort, good stuff go check it out.

I'll be out there between Sheffield and Sanderson in one week, chasing mulies. 'Saw a few early this week. I love the way a mule deer buck initially looks at you - whitetails always have this "oh, crap!" appearance, but mulies look like "Should I really be concerned about this?" Not the brightest, but I still like going after them.
Spotting them is the hard part. A stalk, with just a minimum amount of skill, will usually put you in firing range. I plan on getting high up, in areas that aren't travelled very much by us when headed to blinds and feeders, and glassing a ton. See something - go after it.

Property is around 3,000 acres but seems like 10,000 with the canyon like terrain. Plenty of elevation change from creek drainage bottoms to "mountain" like ridges. Plan on hunting the 1st weekend. Forecast looks cold but on the other hand there will be a full moon! Never stand hunted mule deer but there are 2 stands so may give it a shot

1st weekend??? Where are your priorities, the season is only 3 weekends long.
If you're going back then take some square bails of alfalfa with you and chunk them out for the next hunt. Trust me on this one.

I agree on the alfalfa. We normally put bales out and the mule deer go through it quickly! Does anyone have any trail camera pictures of any mullies?

I work shift work so will spend my 7 days off at the lease before going back to another stint of nights/days!
