Anybody using a 20 ga for ducks? Most of my shots are decoying so I don't think I would lose too much vs a 12. Mulling a switch I handled a 20 gauge monte felted the other day and man it felt sweet

Plan on using the Ultra Light 28 for teal and the 20 for ducks

Planning on taking my 28 too.
Which ammo you all using for subguage?
I just rec'd a flat of Winchester steel #6, figure it's about the best bang for the buck

I reload hevi shot 7.5's for my 28ga. I have a case of those Winchester 6's. As long as they are close, it works fine. I found I crippled quite few birds on my 2nd shot as they were getting out of the decoys.

Mack's had #6 heavy shot for the 28 so that's what I'll use, getting lots of practice beforehand though Reloaded some #6 Bizmuth for the 20 just in case.

I reload for my 28 of course, but no non-tox yet. Even bought BPI's non-tox wads, but haven't gotten around to it just yet.
Hevi shot and their ilk are so D*€¥#d expensive!
BPI doesn't list any steel loads for the AAHS hull either, which is my preferred hull.
Will ya'll help me out with some 28 g steel load recipes?
WW AAHS hull, BPI non-tox wad, WW 209 primers and #6 steel shot are the components I have to work with.
TIA

Bismuth or hevi shot 28 gauge #4's or 5's are absolutely lethal on ducks, I've killed them out to 40 yards stone dead, and seen them killed much further than that. I just bought a flat of 28 gauge Winchester #6's as well for teal season here in southeast Texas. The times I have shot the bismuth and hevi shot have been at a private club in Oklahoma where all you normally shoot is mallards hovering in front of you at 20 yards. I'm not a good enough shot on these rice rockets down here to spend $30/10 shells.
I'm with GK because I like salty old dudes.

Use Steel #6 for Teal and #6 heavy shot for ducks, has worked well from the Benelli Montefeltro. Great little gun. Agree with the one that said with Steel on longer shots get more cripples than with the heavy shot which though expensive I shoot a lot fewer rounds with it to get the ducks.

May just have to bite the hevi-shot and pay the big bucks for a few rounds, put em in the top barrel for the second shot....

My two daughters shoot 20's and seem to do just fine. They each killed several limits of ducks with them last year but I did have to clean up some cripples for them. They shot 2 3/4 steel 6's.

We have tons of geese out here in Holland. Last year I was out with the 20G for pigeons and out of the blue the geese got in. Now there is a French company called Marry Arm and they produce a 20G 2 3/4 24gr 7 wich I use for clays and pigeons. The geese came in low so (as we are told) I took an aim at the head. Dropped it stone cold. That morning we shot over 50 birds and almost no cripples. So ever since my faith is in the 20G no matter what cartridge.
Go to the range take some shots and now your limits would be my advice.
Good luck!

Been using a Citori 20 ga for 20 plus years and I keep up with my friends using 12s. If you are worried about reach use #4 in a 3" mag. Drop big Northern Greenheads like they are dove.
