My son bought a place thats on a well. DIL complaining about low water pressue at the shower heads . Well pressure shows about 52psi but the well is about 200' from the house. Suggestions on boosting the pressure? Never had a well at my place just the junky coop water. I turned on the showers and the pressure seemed ok to me

Might try testing the pressure at point of use. The he may find it close, or possibly obstructed/ pipe size restricted. Could even have calcium build up in the shower head.

He just may have to get used to something other than city supplied water

Thanks. He had already replaced the showerheads.

You can adjust your pressure switch up. What size of line goes to the house?

If you think the pressure was ok and I assume you are older and have a bit more experience on showers and water pressure....tell her "that's as good as it gets". If you need to be more analylitical...take the showerhead or aerator off the fixture and hook a pressure guage up...normal houshold pressure should be somewhere between 40-60 psi. If you are 200' away you could be losing 8 psi to pressure drop giving you somewhere around 44psi. If you're getting much less than that is when you have to start worrying about the other problems that may be present.

Mine did. I took it off and now just use the water softener instead. It did help.

Does the pressure drop occur at every faucet or just at the shower?

Turn everything OFF. Hook up a hose with an on/off valve and go to the pressure tank/gauge or have someone stand near an outside faucet within hearing range. Turn the water on and watch the pressure drop. When the pump kicks on close the valve & watch the gauge.

What's the pressure when it kicks off? Should be around 55-60 lbs. Does it hold? If not you have a leak somewhere. This could be anywhere from the pump to the house. If it holds, then consider a line blockage. (An in line filter that's plugged will do it or calcium build up).

Is she running the dish washer or washing machine at the same time? How long is she staying in the shower? I know you can't look but they may have a pump that can't keep up with the demand. Also - the pressure switch may be bad on the low side & not kicking the pump in when it should. Should come on around 40psi.

I had to re-train my wife when we moved into the old farm house. She liked to leave the water running when brushing teeth, rinsing dishes, and loved to turn on the dishwasher, washing machine, & shower at the same time.

Good Luck!

(Forgot - check the pressure tank....may not have enough air in it and it's getting water logged!)

first thing to check is how much pressure the tank is holding and the pressure switch....the spring on the pressure switch could be weakening and causing the problem....mine is about the same distance from my house and i keep it at 45 pounds and its pretty powerful....look for leaks or even wet spots on the ground where the grass might be greener where the line runs it should be fairly easy to figure out and narrow down the problem

Inside the lid of the pressure switch are instruction on raising and lowering the water pressure.
