I am new to bow hunting and this evening I had 3 doe come in and the only one i had a shot at was young. I ended up passing hoping that they might come back through. About 45 mins later the biggest buck(10 point)on my land that i have pics of was approaching my feeder. I have never drew back on any deer! At 27 yards he stops, I go to draw back and he looks right at me! BUCK FEVER sets in, im thinking hes about to run, so i rush my shot missed in front of him and he runs off over 50 yards in to an open field that i cant see into from my ground blind. I am very bummed about missing, but on the other hand I'm glad i missed instead of injuring the deer. I was going to hunt that stand again in the morning...question 1 will i ever see that deer again? and 2. should i keep hunting that stand?

I would give it a break for a few days if he was a regular at your feeder. Welcome to bowhunting, also be glad you had a clean miss. Good thing is you learned a good lesson and didnt wound the deer. We have all made mistakes, so dont sweat it, good luck

to the forum. If the wind is right I say get back out there. You never know. x2 if the wind is right and you have a good approach you could definitively go back. If you have another stand somewhere and conditions are right you could consider sitting in that stand.

I was fortunate to have laid down my first bow kill last Saturday. It only took me 5 years of bow hunting to accomplish that feat but I went back to same stand I killed from that morning because it was wind perfect in the PM I didn't have anything until I hit the grunt and rubbed my real deer horns on the tree and limbs I was in, imitating a buck rubbing. I did not have any bucks respond, but I had the three does come back that were there that morning. You never know

Glad to hear you are hooked, sounds like a great encounter.
I've been bowhunting about 25 years now, and would strongly consider that shot. 27 yards is a pretty long shot. Next time let him come in a little closer. Most of the critters I've killed have been under 20, only a few over. 30 is a hail mary on a pig, but not something I'd risk on a trophy.
Do your best to remain in control of your feelings (I expect you to be excited, and rushing with adrenaline), just remember that you owe it to him (the deer) to put the best shot possible on him.
One of the hardest things about bowhunting, is the shot that you DON'T take.

Just remember the shooting basics, and take your time. It's happened to all of us. I had a hell of a time early this year and I realized I was jerking the release instead of squeezing.
Hope you get him!

Welcome to the Forum and to bow hunting. I missed a doe at 30 yards once. My equipment was in good order but I had not practiced further than that and frankly had no business taking the shot for that reason. I took some advise to always practice further than you plan to shoot in the field. Aside from periodically checking each pin, I mainly practice at 40yards. I've noticed that my groups at 20 and 30 have improved as has my confidence.
Btw, I see no reason to avoid the stand, I've had plenty of repeat business after taking a shot the day before or even the morining of. Good luck. Lets see pics later.

Watch your scent management and above all make sure the wind is in your favor. Then get back out there and expect him to be there and there is a good chance he will.......
