So I am curious, just recently moved back to Texas and wow must say lease prices are stupid. I mean I get those that have management on them for wildlife, but I have come across some guys that do nothing to there land and still asking like $4000 for the season. I mean if your not gonna even contribute to manage the wildlife, should it cost this much per gun?

His land, his rules and prices. If you don't like it buy your own. Edited to add, there's public land out there too.

All of the above!

I can just about say with certainty that there won't be a vacant lease by the time the season is well underway, and if there is, it won't be because of price.

You can't blame the landowner. Call it whatever you want, but there will be someone out there that will pay whatever the going price is and then some to hunt.

Not the landowners fault and it's just the way it is.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Too many hunters, not enough productive places to hunt. I pay because I like to hunt. More than that I like to take game when I hunt. I've had deer"less" leases. They suck. So I pay the cost to enjoy what I do. Can't live forever. Can't take it with me.

Very true just in a rut I guess you would say. So some of these prices are well out of my price range. Guess hunting shouldn't be an option for me then.

As far as the public land got into Texas to late to put in for the draws. But thanks for the info guys.

Check with the outfitters in the outfitting section, there are other options that won't break the bank.

Have been looking and budget is tight. Most start at like 200-300 and not guaranteed ya know. So hard to say yes and throw that money away hahahaha. I know wishful thinking. Guess I will be sitting this one out guys. Shoot something for me.

I went from a very nice (and expensive) South Texas lease two years ago to no lease last year. I'll be without a lease this year too. It sucks but living within the house hold budget is mandatory while hunting is a want, not a need.

This too shall pass. When it does, I'll be back on my nice, expensive South Texas deer lease.

There's lots and lots of $1500/yr deer leases out there. Put the word out and keep looking. Have your money ready and put it down the instant you find what you're looking for. Good luck.

Agreed. Land owners have expenses and put up with a lot of crap. Tons of it. I've seen/witnessed both sides of this coin, and fully understand why some charge what they do, to downright saying "no more"

There are some folks that are very dis-respectful on another man's property.

I'll leave it at that.

I have said it before and will say it again...

You think leases are hard to find now, lower all the prices and see what you can find.

People always seem to think that it is someone else's fault and someone else is screwing them, but they don't look at the other sides.

Not tryin to rag on the OP, but take his post so far. "Lease prices are stupid". He has a budget of $300, but doesn't want to go because they aren't guaranteed. IMO, it is what it is and you get what you pay for.

If leases were $300, my guess is most people would still spend their normal amount and just lease the entire thing. Then we could get on here and complain about that.

To the OP, hope it all works out for you and hope you find what you are looking for. I truly do. For $300, I am sure someone can guarantee you a hog, if you are interested in that. Good luck up

You sure? I really thought there was an outfitter on here that was offering pigs at less than that with a guarantee. Not sure if they were down in your area or not, but I am pretty sure there was one. Let me check around and see if I can find one. How far would you be willing to travel?

$300 will barely rent a one room shack for a month, why would a landowner want to lease his land for such a small amount for any amount of time. The insurance, bookkeeping and tax work for that amount wouldn't be worth it.

I mean it is totally up to the individual as to what is too much. Just the way Texas is. You can find cheaper leases than $4000.00 if you start early. It is just like buying a car. You buy the best you can for the money you have to spend. Some can afford a Mercedes, some can't. I will forgo the Mercedes and spend some of it on a cheaper car and some of it on a hunting lease.
