I'm looking for a 22-250 to use for predator hunting. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good value for not only a rifle but a good value on a scope. Not looking to reach out past 150 yards but obviously would like to hunt in low light situations. Thanks in advance.

I really hate to do what I am about to do, because it will be very painful for you.

I will tell you to look at a Savage Axis package, under $300 (with cheap Bushnell scope), tack driver out of the box, 150 it's not even breaking a sweat.
Shortly the guy's who have never owned one will be here to tell you why not to buy it.
Walmart has em

I always liked the way the Ruger M77s looked. There was one posted in the classifieds recently. I have always found the Rugers to be solid rifles.

Walmart has em My buddy has an axis in 243. I personally think they are hard to beat for the price. The trigger is a little stiff but it will shoot moa. I've had good luck with Ruger's and the new Ruger American may not be a bad way to go either, I think they are just over $300 and have read a lot of good reviews on them.

I bought a new Tikka last month in 22-250. I put a zeiss conquest on top of it. it's the only factory gun I've ever owned that will one hole three shots with factory ammo.

An older Ruger M77 would be good. The new Ruger American has a 1:10 twist which beats the Axis 1:12.

I have a 77 flat bolt...wicked accurate. I have handled both, the Ruger feels better. I always, side with twist, the 1:12 is a goatphuck!

Why would you want a fast twist with that light of a bullet? I would the the 1:12 would be better.

I don't get the Savage haters. My model 16 22-250 shoots .35" 5 shot groups with 52 grain Bergers and 36.0 grains of Varget. Tikkas will do about the same usually. And the VTR and SPS have to be 2 of the ugliest guns on the planet.

Tikka or Savage.
Shooting long range, or not you have to pay for good glass to be able to see your target. 100 yards low light to 1000 yards, midday. With glass, you get what you pay for.

My problem is the "I never shot one but I heard" followers. Oh well, pay for a pretty gun, I will buy 2 for the price of 1 myself.

Those same followers, when asked about a suitable moose cartridge, will proclaim loudly, "I've never been moose hunting, never even seen a moose on the hoof. But I sure hope to go moose hunting one day, after I get my GED. But I know with CERTAINTY that my .290 Remchester Magnum is the best moose cartridge ever invented." Those with the least experience tend to shout the loudest.... and argue the longest. I'll add that I still own the first Ruger 77 I ever saw: a flat bolt, bull-barreled .22-250. It has one of the early Douglas barrels, rather than one of the uncertain Wilson tubes. It is a tack driver. My most recent .22-250 is an X-Bolt Micro Hunter. It is a <MOA shooter, which is nice in a light sporter. I will conclude that I believe there are far fewer inaccurate .22-250s out there than accurate ones. Pick a rifle that suits your ergonomics (and your pocketbook), and go forth...

Nothing wrong with Savages, they do shoot. I prefer a faster twist, gives me better bullet options!
If all you want to shoot is factory....then go forth. Why manufactures don't run the faster twist in today's age, only they can answer.

Amen brother! I never met a 22-250 I didn't like. My brother has a Winchester Coyote- nail driver. I have a Browning A-bolt octagon barrel- nail driver. My daughter has a Ruger M77- nail driver.
Scopes are Monarch, Leupold, and Redfield.
What is this Tikka thing? Is this a North Texas fad? Lol

A friend of mine had me pick him up a savage with the camo and heavy fluted barrel for a deal. It was a 22-250 and we sighted it in with his handloads and it was a tack driver right out of the box. The triggers are nice and light. Savage makes a nice rifle, I don't own one but have shot many of them. We had 5 shot group at 100yds measuring less than .5 moa.
