Well I have gotten permission to hunt on a friends place and am excited to see what will transpire over the next few months. So the biggest plus is its free. However I do have a concern and its where my ? Comes in to play. The place has no ceder or oak trees its mostly tall grass and plenty of mesquite trees. There is no hunting around us and from one fence line there is bedding area 300 yards or so from it. If I place a feeder close to the fence line will the deer come looking for that corn or am I waiting my time. There's water on the property and not to far from where I want to set up. Any thoughts on attracting deer onto this property are welcome. One last thing this back 50 acres are very rural with no ranch roads or much to any foot traffic. Have seen some sign but not a ton.

Put feed near the water and hunt it! Plus one to this. Stick a camera on it and that will tell you the next step. Walter

Just be aware that if you put the feeder on the fenceline there might be a thread with pics on here real soon about "My neighbor has his blind and feeder on the fenceline...." But like posted above I would put my feeder close to water. It will rain this fall and might fill the tank back up.

Yea I know what u mean stx but I don't believe any if our neighbors hunt so it's a little different I suppose. Any who I think using the water source to my advantage will be the way to go.

If deer are going to come across the fence to eat at a new feeder, then they will go a bit farther closer to water to eat from the same feeder. Early season hunts around water can be very productive.

Never a good idea to put a feeder on a fenceline. Like others have said, put it close to water.

The sound of a feeder throwing corn will carry a long, long way. Deer will find the feeder. No need to put it close to the fence. Like mentioned earlier, put it near a water source (within 100 yards) and keep it in or on the edge of brush.
Cedar trees are detriment. They offer nothing of value to wildlife like deer. Oaks only offer acorns in the fall and will often pull wildlife away from feeders. So count you blessings there. I'd rather have mesquite, hackberrys and other browse.
Good luck and congrats on a free hunting spot. PS, offer the owner something he'll appreciate to say "thanks" for the hunting opportunity. It will go a long way to keeping that invitation open.

Set up some feeders and cams. You might be surprised what shows up!
