Most folks on here seem to prefer the fixed blade. I would be shooting fixed blades, but I havent' found a fixed blade that doesn't require me to make adjustments to my bow, so I shoot Spitfire mechanicals, and have been happy with them.

I shoot the same, Sptfire 100. I have not shot anything with one so I was wondering if you have ever had any trouble with them?

I've shot at & killed 2 does in the past 2 years with no problems at all. Both were quartering shots. In fact, the one from last year was almost facing me. I also have a couple of buddies that have used them for a couple of years and now swear by them. The thing we all seem to notice the most is the damage done by the broadhead.

Thanks alot makes me feel better about them. I also had heard mostly good things about them, but just haven't been able to connect on a deer for myself. Seeing is believing!

I would love to shoot fixed blades but like already mentioned I do not like to change my set up and adjust for the fixed blades. I have shot spitfires and have harvested a couple of deer with them. However, I am shooting the Gator XP's this year they have a fixec blade cutting tip on them and open easier on angled shots. Let you know how they work this weekend.

bigbill welcome back from the stoneage. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif) For me it's thunderhead 125's never had a problem with arrow flight or penetration. I also like the fact I know they will work every time they leave the bow.

I have always shot muzzies with good results but switched to sonic broadheads this year. I bought into their propaganda concerning no change in flight and fantastic penetration. I haven't sailed one at some real hair and hide yet - standby until Saturday ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif) . Anyone else tried the sonic fixed blades?

I have shot fixed blade's for 6 years and had good luck with the thunderheads, ultimate steel and easton t2 extreams but I hated tuning my bow to them so this year I switched to spitfire's.

You may want to go one better and go to the NAP Scorpion mechanical broadhead. I have seen better penetrations on various species with those heads compared to the spitfires. It's essentially the same thing as the spitfire but it has a razor tip instead of a chisel tip. They still fly as accurate but I have seen more people getting complete pass thru's with them than with the spitfires.
I personally don't like the mechanical and prefer to use the G5 Montec broadhead because it doesn't waste energy opening up to penetrate. Mechanicals have to use some of the energy they carry to open the blades. I think the razor tip on the Scorpion helps compesate for that loss and makes it easier to cut thru the bone.

I have shot both. I have shot the Rocket miniblaster for the past 5 years and never had a problem with with. This year I am going to try the Slick Trick fixed blade broadheads. They fly just like my field points. I did not have to make any adjustments to by bow to shoot these broadheads.

I've shot bows for 26 years. I've hunted with them for 21 years. I've never missed at an animal I shot at, Honest. 2 years ago I finally broke down and decided to try 3 different high end mechanical broadheads. I shot 2 deer and 6 hogs that year with mechanicals. I lost 1 one doe and 4 hogs that year with well placed shots at under 20 yards. Granted the mechanicals are not the greatest on the hogs anyways. But 3 of the lost hog shots were 1/4ing away and behind the shoulder. Before 2 years ago, I can only rember losing one deer to fixed broadheads and I feel like it was a bad designed broadhead. The 2 blades of the head were found right where the arrow impacted.
Since that day, I've never given another thought to mechanicals. With some of today's broadhead designs there is no need not to shoot fixed broadheads. A lot of the heads now are designed to shoot like field points. A really good one that comes to mind is one I will be using this year and best of all it's a cheap one. Cabela's makes one called their F3 broadhead. 6 of them for $20.00. They fly like field points. And that's out of a Black Max 2 going 296 fps. They are strong enough to punch through a steel barrel. I'm kinda of old school, I always check to see if the broadheads will handle a steel barrel and if they don't I will not use them.

Re: spitfires While practicing I had a blade break on a foam target. Anyone else have this problem? Opening weekend had a great pass thru on a deer.
I've used muzzy and wack'em in the past with good results but prefer expandables unless pigs are on the menu.

I shot the spitfires up until last year when I swithed to the pro series spitfire, they have a fixed blade on the tip. I have never lost anything using them and have had great penetration with them. I have shot a couple hogs using them and the farthest I have tracked one was close to 50 yards. I have a pic of the Sika I shot last weekend I could post but I think it's to graphic. If you want shoot me an email and I can send it to you. I shot him 1/4 away and the damage it did was unlike anything I could have imagined. I shot him and he made a 30 yard circle and died 10' behind me. Personally I love em and don't plan on switching anytime soon. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
