Anyone have any clues and or experience with good ol common sense design when it comes to making a decission on a new tri pod for a spotting scope. It needs to be steady in the wind and able to extend to full height say 60". There are way to many when you start looking about on line so decided to ask you guys for some help. I backpack hunt so it needs to be resonably light weight and compact without comprimise to how good it performs. Any help will be appriciated

The best (and very expensive) tripod I'm aware of is made by Outdoorsmans. The Jim White head is also very nice. http://outdoorsmans.com/outdoorsmans-tripods/

Thanks for the reponse. The bog looks good but not sure how compact it would be in backpak.

Outdoorsmans make top notch gear, well worth the money if you use it a lot. They make a tall model that you can stand up behind. If you don't want to spend that much money I would go with the Bogen 190 series aluminum or carbon fiber tripod with the 701 hdv head. http://shop.outdoorsmans.com/category.sc?categoryId=48http://shop.outdoorsmans.com/category.sc;jsessionid=62B8F8278A81C8B43D54CCB882EE67CD.m1plqscsfapp02?categoryId=47

I have a Manfrotto also and really like it. I bought mine from B&H Photo and Video.

ive seen the manfrotto and they look very beefy...i have one i got from precision rifle solutions i think its the slik. very beefy and strong with lever clamps instead of twisty clamps for the legs. makes for much quicker deploy.

I am hoping to get a model that is compact enough to fit into my backpak , but strong and light enough to extend to full standing height. The outdoors man model seems way to long for a backpak. Anyone else know of a model i should check over. Cost is not a concern , just as long all the boxes are ticked
