Welcome to the THF bud! Glad to have you on board.
Several factors come in to play when talking feeder lights...cost vs. performance, scope ability, distance, switching modes, brightness, portability, etc. Some are very cheap and some are outrageously expensive. It all boils down to your personal preference and what works best for you. PM sent.

I was wondering if the light would scare off the hogs more than anything ,how long does it take for the hogs to get used to the light

I don't think the pigs even noticed the light I put up.
It's the time spent in God's creation with family and friends making memories that counts.

I use an RPG light from Texas Boars. It stands for red plus green. I set it up 50-75 yards from the feeder facing the feeder. What hogs I have had come to the feeder after dark don't seem bothered by it. I don't have much experience with it yet because half the time the hogs have come before dark.

I use the feeder kill light from Elusive Wildlife Technologies. The hogs don't seem to pay any attention to it at all.

I have home made, motion activated, green lens LED lights on my feeders and the hogs dont care at all when they come on. I have trail cams on them and, in fact, no game really cares IMO. I have deer, coons, pigs, rabbit, etc. nothing seems to run from the light. I did have a pig run once when I hit him with a green kill light that was mounted on my rifle. I have since turned the light on while pointed up in the air and slowly lowered the light to the target. This seems to keep from spooking them as much.

in the past few weeks I have been having trouble spooking the pigs with my red and green kill light. I hunt with a bow, and I have had luck with the lights before. Just last saturday I had a pig at the feeder. turned on the light to the sky and slowly brought it down. as soon as the pig was in the outer halo he spooked. I tried to do this several times and after about 10 minutes the pig finally left. I think its time to just add some solar big box store lights to my feeder legs.

solar landscape lights from home depot work, you can use more than one of any light to make it brighter. Hogs will spook if they see movement from shadows or a bulb blaring in their eyes. Feeder lights are out of the hogs line of sight so they wont have the bulbs in their eyes. I have had my gun mounted green lights spook hogs enough to where I gave up on them. The feeder light is the top 5 best hog hunting tools in my opinion. You can leave them out for a multiple nights to get the hogs adjusted. Once the hogs are there they dont seem to mind it but how many hogs are wise to feeder lights and dont come in?

Use a rubberband to hold a piece of green or red cloth, depending on your light color, over the lens. This will reduce the brightness and not give them the glare that spooks them. As the battery runs down you will have less problems with this.

I've had pretty good luck with a Home Depot solar LED spotlight. It runs about 40.00 and is plenty bright. I put it on top of a 12 foot piece of aluminmum tube that will slide down over a tpost. Just drive the post in the ground and after aiming the light, slide it down over the post. The light is fairly bright and I put it about 35 feet from the center of the feeder. Since it's mounted high and pointing down, it lights up a pretty good circle, makes it pretty easy to see pigs. and is not shining into their eyes too much. Mount it on the side you are shooting from so the light is pointing away from you - it lights up the pigs on your side better and makes them easy to see, identify and shoot. Since it's mounted high, they ignore it more as it looks like the moon or a star. They will forget it's there pretty quickly also.
I used this with great success until I could afford a Pulsar N750. Now, I spot them with a Gen1 monocle and watch the fall thru the DigiSight.

The Pulsar would be sweet on a rifle. But most of the time I'm bowhunting and the Walmart light you mentioned is nice.
