Got new bolt handle and trigger guard in today. I had to modify the guard to make it fit with the box magazine. Going to take an inch off the stock in a minute. Picking up new stainless 338-06 barrel at Shilen tomorrow. Cutting it to 19". May put another stock on it after I see how the wood looks with all the stainless. I was surprised what a little polishing did for the action and the trigger was easy to adjust. Got it set at #3 right now. Any lower and I will put an aftermarket one on it. The goal is to make a very short, light weight, punishing on both ends, gun to carry. As you can see in the picture the bottom metal has a corner broke by the trigger guard. Anybody know where to get one of these in stainless?

Well that chop saw business was scary. I cut it .750" instead of 1". I can always take more off but I can't add.

I used scotch tape to keep the wood from splintering. Not the best but it did ok.

To fit butt pads, I use a lot of masking tape around the stock and a palm sander with very coarse paper. Takes it right down. Finer paper to finish it.

Butt pads are the death of me.. I will never try to do it again. I pay the guy over at bumpbuster the 75$ and get it done right the first time. I wasted 40$ on a nice pad only to really mess it up and trashed it.

But I will say a left handed savage build is nice to see. You should have a killer little rifle when its done.

So today I found out the early bird gets the worm at the shilen swap meet.

Edit: found one late last night with dies and it was local. Rolling again.

It's getting there. Barrel is cut to 19.375" and crowned. The stock still needs a little work to accept the bigger barrel. Hopefully I will get it all done and break in the barrel Monday morning.
