I'm feeding 15 adults after a funeral and want to know a good reasonable (about $10 per) place to eat. Would like a meeting room for privacy.

You might try Underwoods cafeteria, I don't recall the price but $10 a plate sounds reasonable.

Not sure why anyone would recommend Underwood's Boiled BBQ.

Different people like different things I guess. I grew up in a time where there were Underwoods all over the state and they were the rage. Then there were only 2, the one in Waco and the one in Brownwood owned by the different brothers after some sort of split in the family. I would eat at them both whenever I passed thru those towns. I even have family members that have driven to Brownwood from Lubbock just to eat there (years ago of course). It's been probably 10 years or more since I've eaten at the one in Brownwood - since before the one in Waco closed down...but Lord I do wish I could have some of that "boiled BBQ".. Earl Not sure why anyone would recommend Underwood's Boiled BBQ.

Take a look at Prima Pasta in Early, it gets 4.5/5.0 stars on urbanspoon.com and tripadvisor.com
Very good Italian, steaks are great but over $10. They have at least one room off of the main room.

It was still pretty much the same as it had always been until recently. Lenoard Underwood retired a while back and turned it over to one of the other family members, not sure which one. I was not a big fan of the Q, but it was ok, and the fried chicken was good along with the sides. I went for the rolls....anyway. Since Lenoard left it has gone into the tank. I paid no attention to what a friend of mine told me about Underwood's a month or so ago and went in for lunch. Last trip for me. If you want a trip down memory lane you best make a trip...cuz even the Brownwood folks are not going to put up with the food for long.

I grew up less than a mile from the Underwood's that was in in Ft Worth. I had eaten there A TIME OR 2. Never was bad.
To the OP, ya might try the "Section Hand" on the S side on 377. It's as good as any. Yall all liked that damn Humphrey Petes so we went in there to give it a try and the place was so blinkin' loud, that when I left there, I couldn't hear at all and had a headache. Aint nobody got time fo' dat.

Anyone know anything about Smitty's BBQ on Austin Ave? Smittys is pretty good BBQ but not sure on the seating for 15. It is a pretty small place. For you criteria I would definately say Prima Pasta. Great Itilian food and the steaks are very good. You should be able to feed everyone for $10-12 a plate unless everyone orders the steak. Plus they give you a ton of food and you will not leave hungry. They serve alcohol as well. Humprey Petes is a great place also but a little more exspensive than Prima.

Come on Booner, I think we should toss Gomez's in the mix. They could always take the very back are in the back room, the area that kinda looks like a stage...maybe they should "experience" THE MEZ.

Yea I use to love THE MEZ lol. Kinda went a little down hill lately though. Their hot sauce is still out of this world though. They do have the separate room and the pricing is right.

Dang, I hate that, I have not eaten there in about a year. I always eat the American food. The hamburgers, onion rings and fried green tomatoes were always some of the very best.

I feel better now...when I was broke college kid from 73 to 78 I ate many bean plates...do not know if they even serve them anymore, we could get a plate of refried beans w/salad and tea and leave a tip for $1.50. I probably have not eaten the Tex Mex there in 15 or 20 years. I should be in Bwood in a couple of weeks....and some onion rings and a burger are on my mind. If it works out I buy you burger and some rings if you have time.

I hunt in comanche (just east of bwood) and we go to H. Pete's all the time. It is loud, but the foods pretty good and the schooner beers are the coldest in the area!

Have eaten in Gomez's in several years but started eating there in the mid 1960's. Old joke was "what is the fastest thing in Brownwood"? Answer: "a cat going through the Gomez neighborhood". Rumors back then said they were using cat meat in their tacos. If they did, it sure made the best tacos in the county. Have eaten there hundreds of times and have never had a bad meal.

Originaly from Brownwood and visit there often. I have ate at all the above mentioned places. To date the best place in the Brownwood area is in Blanket!!! Thats correct. Well worth the short drive to down town Blanket. Either Kates or Katy's is the name. Great steak home made onion rings and lots of it! I will be going back in a few weeks and will be there again! Its only open I think Thurs. through Sat. or Sunday.

Mi familia in early. Pete's can be good or real bad. Prima pasta has a lot of Choices. I think my vote would be Section Hand or Mia Familia. Both have a upscale atmosphere (at least for the Brownwood area) and since you guys will coming from a funeral you might feel more comfortable in a upscale place. Both have good food and if you call ahead I bet they would let you have a room to yourselves. The Section Hand has what I would call the "trophy room" with multiple mounts on the wall. I would request it. Sorry for your loss!
