I'm not understanding. Can you not move the rings closer together?

No you cant, the base only has one notch that the rings can set in

I guess I dont understand why switching rings would cause the distance between the rings to be differnt. The spacing would be in your base and it sounds like you didnt change that.

You could always get a set of reversable Leupold rings and bases and that would solve the problem though.

Never mind. I see you switched scopes as well so you obviously have a shorter tube on the Leupold.

Yes Leupold makes bases where you can flip one of them around to make the distance between the rings shorter or wider.

Either the Leupold like JCB said or the DNZ that is one piece rings and bases. Either should work

You need an off set base for the rear. I have one on my
Savage for a Leupold as well. The only negative I have concerning a Savage is the very long long action bolt throw.

What's wrong with a one piece picatinny rail if you're going to be replacing the base anyway?

Ton of adjustments can be made with the rail. As long as the rings are the right height you're guaranteed to get the rings mounted in the right place for any optic you choose.

If you are running tactical/Weaver notch type rings..you can get
several bases..however, I'd go with a single piece base whatever
kind of rings you are using ...I have gotten away from the Redfield/Leupold type bases w/the adj screws in the rear and twist in base in front also, as one of my Rem 308's got a loose
fit in the front and the rear windage screws came loose while cull shoot a ranch a yr. or so ago..I put Weave steel rings and
slotted bases on the 700 and have never had a problem since..and
I think all of it was about $26 ...which is less than the other
rings alone..DD

If one were to look on all the rifles of the guys a compete with all you will find is a one piece, picatinny base and good rings. What's that tell you?
