which model 70 came with just a plain synthetic checkered stock, the one i found seems to be like a package gun with just a cheap simmons scope any ideas maybe a stupid question but i found whats seems to be a good price on one. What was it called i know winchester has a hundred different model names. Any ideas??

One that fits that description is the Black Shadow.

The black shawdow has a couple extra lines. The plain version with the simmons scope was a walmart level package. $300-$350 is all its worth.

Yea i bet its the walmart package good guns i guess?? I was thinking about getting it and just changing the stock out and a little trigger work

it should be parkerized not blued if it is a black shadow.

The one im looking at just has the checkered stock like the savage not like the one in the pic and it is blued

Unless you are getting it for a steal the one I had was very unimpressive. I did a trigger job and added a bell and carlson stock and still didn't get great performance out of it.

I bought one of these on the going out sale at wally world in 270. It shoots under MOA. It's a awesome gun. I'd change the stock on it out though. Boyd's has some decent wood stocks and they won't hurt the pocket book.
