Amateur astronomers from the Johnson Space Center Astronomical Society in Houston will be on hand that Saturday evening with their telescopes. There will be a wide variety of different size and styles of telescopes that you can look through to see planets, nebulas, star clusters, and galaxies. There will be an astronomy presentation in the fort’s school house, beginning at 5 p.m. We encourage the public to walk the telescope field just before sunset to see the different types of telescopes and to talk with their owners.
The star party is dependent upon the weather and could be cancelled due to clouds or bad weather. On the afternoon of the star party, please feel free to contact the fort at 325.396.2358 for a status update. Please park in the parking lot and follow the red lights to the observing field. Bring a red flashlight. Red cellophane will be available to cover white light flashlights. Please, no white light at the telescopes.
