There is a ton of deer are smaller and there are pockets of deer now. Leased we hunted about 5 years ago owner would only let us kill 2 hogs and only 1 doe. The bucks were run ragged from the rut. I know some guys that got off last year and they said there were no more deer left on the place because the hogs cleared out all the under brush.

I hunted the Four Forks area one year, didn't see too much.

However, Bar X outside of Angleton has a ton of deer!

There was a 159 7/8" NT killed in the county by an archery hunter LF this past season according to TBGA.

There must have been a population boom at some point, when I lived in pearland roughly 10 years ago it was still somewhat rural, I never saw a deer. We used to drive down 288 going to Sargent and I would see maybe on or two deer down around lake Jackson but never many. Even once we got onto the back roads it wansnt much in the way of deer

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

The hogs have run most of the deer out of places they are not being heavily trapped.

As you get down closer to the coasts, there are some real honey holes in Brazoria County. If you believe the QDMA surveys, it's one of the highest populated counties in Texas.

I used to live at 288 and the Beltway and saw some absolute monsters right outside of Shadow Creek Ranch. Lots of hogs too. Cop that stopped me once to investigate if I was poaching told me there was a 14-pt, 170-class buck that lived there, and I'm about 90% sure I saw him a couple of time, albeit from afar (couldn't count the exact points).

Buddy has a place right near the coast and he sees some awesome deer for a place that's not even remotely managed.

There's a guy that posts on this forum (screen name has slipped me) that gets a bunch of very nice bucks down there.

Just depends on the area.

Here is a pick of a decent Brazoria county buck. I've posted it before. He lives inside Dow Chemical property near the landfill.

I saw a beautiful 8 to 10 point in field between West Columbia and Brazoria one day.

I have also had problems with deer eating right out of garden just outside of Angleton. There are deer here, just hard trying to find a lease in Brazoria County, I think.

bay city and van vleck are in matagorda county...bay city is the county seat...but yes i hunt 5 minutes from van vleck, tons of deer and hogs, just not very big. ive seen as many as 75 deer in 1 morning. lots of alligators if you are into that. weve had 600 acres since 1980 and hunted it hard since then. largest weve taken was 135". i believe the matagorda cty record is 166". ive hunted there for a lonnnng time, and more questions, feel free to ask.

we got this one this year.. its about as good as you could expect in a given year. scored around 125 i think.

these 2 are the biggest weve shot.... they were in 2007, the left one and the bottom pic is the 135" i shot. dont remember the other ones score

Thanks Hogslayer. You're right...didnt realize exactly where the Co line was I guess. Guy I was talking with about it said Brazoria county, east of Van Vleck. So now, I'm now assuming he was must have been talking just over the county line if it was Brazoria Co.

Nice pics! And thanks again for the info. I may hit you up for more specifics if what I'm looking at ever starts to move.

Jones creek has similar deer and terrain as matagorda county... Swampy and big oaks and pecans... Also. If you plan on hunting down there, invest in a couple Therma Cells!

Good old Alvin. My old stomping grounds. Grew up there in 70's and 80's
