Here is the link to the schedule of classes. You will want to take the online portion and then go in for the half day class.

I work out at Cabelas and they offer a class every two months, I believe.

Be careful, some of the Skills portion of the Homestudy/Online Hunter Education course is longer than a half-day. It must be at least a minimum of 4 hours, not less, but can be more and most are.

The "Flower Mound" home study completion testing site shown on TP&W's web site is our place. Details at www.dentoncountysports.com And yea, ours is somewhat longer than the "4 hour minimum" and costs most folks $46.88.

A handfull of classes still offered this month, but none set so far for February. Such could interfere with quail hunting!

Typically this time of year, many of the students are there because game warden left 'em with the little blue love letter for not having the class. That was the case in class last Wednesday night - for 5 out of 9. Too, a few "desperados" this time of year heading up for Kansas peasants ...

Care to share your "motivation"?

My buddy and his son took the Cabela's class. Don't do it. They are still taking uppers to wake them up.

Why are you charging $46.88 for the course when it is only $15/student? Are range fees that HIGH now?

Per reply to PM and referenced (required reading for "home study" students) web site, pricing has been in accordance with private range bylaws and compliant with TP&W guidelines since inception of "home study" program in 1999. It's an option. Folks don't have to accept the option. They can go somewhere else. The problem is people frequently have few other options, especially if they do not plan well ahead.

We determined long ago that our little association (comprised primaily of a core group of local CHL holders and LEOs) could not subsidize dozens of hunter ed. classes full of students from all over the state.

Again, it's an option - one taken last year by well over 500 students (average of about 8 per class), most of which were tickled to find a "completion class" at any price.

"Care to share your motivation"? Are you asking me why I want to take hunters ed?
Got to have it to hunt in Colorado. Hopefully drawing a tag for elk in November.
Thanks,
Lance

Yep, Colorado regs "motivate" lots of us quasi-geezers. They have not yet mailed me their booklet for this year but IIRC, their initial draw deadline last year was the first Tuesday in April - one of the reasons the March 23 class is already showing on DCSA web site.

From feedback over the years, "first time Texans" seem to have very good odds of getting drawn the first time they apply, particularly for cow tags. Methinks they like to get us hooked on sending them money.

There are several courses that do not charge the extra fees throughout the state, and especially in the DFW area for either the Homestudy/Online or the Structured course for $15 and anyone can view these at this link...
http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/learning/hunter_education/homestudy.phtml

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/learning/hunter_education/traditional.phtml

More will be added on their website as it gets closer to the summer months.
