WACO – A cooking school featuring recipes promoting Texas agriculture is
scheduled Feb. 6, just prior to the 50th Blackland Income Growth Conference Feb.
7-8 at the Extraco Events Center in Waco.
The Dinner Tonight Cooking School is scheduled from 6-8 p.m., said Susan
Ballabina, Texas AgriLife Extension Service regional program director at Dallas.
Cost is $15, call 254-757-5180 to register.
The cooking demonstrations will feature nutritious, quick and easy meal
preparation, Ballabina said.
“While there are many groups who conduct cooking schools, we believe the
Dinner Tonight Healthy Cooking School has a unique niche,” she said. “Our
demonstration recipes are cost effective, easy to prepare and fit into a healthy
meal plan. We are targeting busy people who still want to make time for meal
preparation and feel good about what they are feeding themselves and their
family.”
Ballabina said the program goals are to promote family mealtime, teach families
healthy meal planning and food preparation techniques.
More information about the Dinner Tonight recipes are available at

“We are celebrating 50 years of educating agricultural producers in the
Blacklands region, and this year’s conference features several informative
sessions on production agriculture,” said Ron Woolley, conference coordinator
and AgriLife Extension district director at Stephenville. “We think we have a
little bit for everyone, and producers will take home plenty of strategies they
can incorporate into their operations.”
The annual conference is sponsored by AgriLife Extension and the Waco Chamber of
Commerce.
Registration for the main Blackland Income Growth Conference on Feb. 7 is $20
per person and includes lunch. Several sessions will award continuing education
units. Producers are encouraged to download the brochure at
http://stephenville.tamu.edu/blackland-income-growth/conference-information/to see specific continuing education unit allocations, sessions and speakers.
State Sen. Brian Birdwell, R-Granbury, will be the keynote lunch speaker.
Birdwell represents District 22, serves as vice chairman of the higher education
committee and is a member of the economic development, government organization
and veteran affairs committees.
