Curious if I wanted to convert some old feeder over to protein feeders. Obviousily take timer off and need some type of gravity spout. Will just 4 in. PVC with a T on the end work. Figured could make a protein feeder for $100 instead of $300+. How far should the spout be off the ground?

It will work but you will need some sort of lip to keep the protein from just spilling out. Also drill some small holes on the underside of each port to let rain/moisture out.My spouts are about 34-36" off the ground but my feeders were in hog panel pens.

Here is a quicker and less expensive option. Go to Academy and buy a Game Winner attachment that will attach to the bottom of your feeder. I did exactly what you are planning last year and I think I paid either $25 or $29 for it. It is a about an 18" long 4" metal pipe with top flange coming down to 3 4" share tubing spouts that hang. Flow is adjustable.

Works great, plan to add another this month.

Don't need any lip to stop spilling. I am running two with no lips. Just need to make the pvc long enough where the flow stops on it's own. I think mine are about 6 inches long.
