How often does an opportunity come around geared specifically for the novice hunter?

Folks experienced with a shotgun have more than likely been hunting for years. For as long as I can remember, various members of my family have hunted. Most of them began by working with a shotgun or rifle as a young person—they were taught the logistics and finer points often by other family members.

If you're not lucky enough to be able to learn from a loved one, where do you go for training and instruction?

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, in conjunction with conservation partners Delta Waterfowl and the Texas State Rifle Association, recognized this shortfall and came up with a plan of action. The end result? Mentored hunting workshops for beginning hunters, held at various state parks throughout the state.

What that means for us novices in the North Texas area is a chance to try out waterfowl hunting alongside experienced hunters. And how lucky are we? Lake Arrowhead State Park is hosting two of these mentored waterfowl hunting workshops, scheduled for the dates of Dec, 13-15, 2011, and Jan. 10-12, 2012.

Good luck to the both.

Now that is something I wholeheartedly endorse the use of our license fees to support.

Some were offered on dove hunts a few years back and looking to implement more at various locations throughout the state.

Thanks James for posting this!
