So, did anyone attend? I'm curious what Rollins had to say.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

I went. It was an interesting presentation, but not really much that we haven't already read. The one thing I had not heard before was an eye-worm parasite. Dale said they found dead birds that had trama, like it had flown into something--perhaps because it couldn't see, or so the speculation goes. He seemed optomistic that if the eye-worm is a significant part of the puzzle, that they can treat for worms one way or another. At least they have been able to effectively treat for worms in deer and other animals in the past. But then again, they have not found eye-worms in quail in S.TX., where the numbers are also declining. He thought the quail had generally weathered the wild fires reasonably well. So like most articles, he continues to be cautiously optomistic, but he does not advocate hunting this year. He advocates getting out to work dogs and to shoot but only with cameras. To that end, the RPQRR is having a "covey rise" photo contest, which could be kind of cool. His newsletters are interesting, and probably include most of the information he relayed. http://www.quailresearch.org/news.htm

Me and my bunch have decided not to hunt wild Quail again for the 3rd year in a row in Knox county. But we do plan to buy a few canned( raised bird ) hunts. Just to keep dogs working and practice the shooting aspect. I missed the event but feel lucky that we have Dr. Rollins here in Texas. He is a huge authority on Quail hunting from academics to actually being a quail hunter himself... Hope everyone has fun this year, if you decide to hunt them or not. It is a personal choice that is up to each hunter.

Thanks for the report Nate. Had not heard of the eye worm. I missed the event but feel lucky that we have Dr. Rollins here in Texas. He is a huge authority on Quail hunting from academics to actually being a quail hunter himself...
Not a choice in most of Hardeman/Childress. Decline has really hit hard last 5 years. No hunts last 4 years and again this year.
