Looking at the v plex and the BDC reticle in vortex scopes.
I will be using this on a muzzleloader. Do you all like the different notches or do you all like the simple cross hair only on your scopes. Trying to get an understanding if you need them on a muzzle or if it's more work to sight in and not worth it

Thoughts?

For me I dont care one way or the other but I usually go with the BDC type reticals as long as they dont try to charge you more for them. For a muzzle loader your range is much more limited so no you dont "need" it but there are lots of things we dont "need" but we still buy them because they are cool. Thats my 2cents.

Are they tougher to site in? Take much more time? Why do you go with those instead since you are more limited?

Thanks

Honestly I have never actually tried to see where the extra elevation and windage marks in the reticals were hiting. I just consider them more of an aid rather than an actual point of aim for longer shots.

Not sure how to answer your last question because I dont see them limiting me at all.

Overall, I am just wanting someone to say yes you need to buy that kind of scope for the muzzle and why. Or no you don't need it and you would be fine with a v plex, no problem.

Just want to make sure I putting the correct type of scope on there

Thanks

I have no experience with muzzle loaders. What kind of range can one expect to get to accurately? If you can ge to 200 or 250 yards + then I would suggest a reticle with some sort of aiming references in the reticle. I don't support BDC reticles for cartridge firing rifles but they may have an application in muzzle loaders. If you plan to hunt with the muzzle loader beyond your zeroing range then you need to practice on targets at say 125, 150, 175, 200 and so on; as far as you can comfortably hit your target.

Zeroing a fine duplex, heavy post, MIL reticle, MOA reticle, etc. is all the same. Bore sight it, shoot it at 100 yard paper and make point of aim match point of impact.

it depends on what you are wanting to do and the ranges. if staying within say 125yards it doesn't matter. Using the BDC can get you aiming points out to about 250 yards.

There you have my 2cents

I wouldn't put one ona ML because most Ml shots are no that long. If you are shooting magnum loads and going 200 yards at most do you really need it? I think it's just too busy while looking thought those to like them for that kind of application.

btw what type of smokepole are you using?
