Need a few ideas or thoughts...... I have an older model Remington 1100, and it is not correctly ejecting the shells.

It either ejects, and catches the shell half way (where the slide has jammed the shell in half) or doesn't eject at all.

Let me know your thoughts....

When was the last time it was REALLY cleaned?

The gass ports may be clogged up, go to YOUTUBE and type in remington 1100 cleaning and if you havent already clean it inside and out with broznebrush and solvent. Relubing as needed.

Also check the o-ring in the gas system to make sure its sealing good.

Thats the first thing I would replace.

Every time I have encountered an ejection problem with an 1100 or 1187 a new O-ring fixed it.

Not just the O-ring, check the piston and seal as well. May be time to upgrade those as well. Also, take some time and thoroughly clean the gas ports.

By the way, is this an 1100 Magnum?

Good luck and let us know what fixes it. I have an 1100 that my Dad bought me for my 16th birthday (1970) and it's had countless thousands of rounds through it. It always shot everything from the cheapest Dove loads to the heaviest Turkey loads (2-3/4").

A few years ago, it satrted acting up. Not ejecting correctly (stovepiping) and failing to close on the next live round. Having lived with this gun for so long, I am pretty well up on all the standard maintenance procedures. Cleaning it (including the gas ports) made no difference. Replacing the metal gas seals and o-ring never made any difference. Polishing the chamber never made any difference. It just refuses to operate reliably. The only thing I haven't checked is the recoil spring length. The forearm support broke about 10 years ago but they are not available for the old 1100s anymore (as per Remington). In fact, I have two older 1100s and both are missing the forearm support but the other one made in 1971 functions well.

I can't get rid of the gun because of sentimental reasons but I sure would like to be able to hunt with it. As it sits now, it's just taking up room in the safe.

Practice doesn’t make perfect.
Practice makes permanent.

The action spring (in the buttstock) can make a difference. New, it is 15" long. If it has set to less than 14 1/2" it needs to be replaced.

The bolt may be coming back too far and the link is hammering into the action spring tube. Look for damage to the rear of the bolt, the bolt buffer, the link and the mouth of the action spring tube.

If you are shooting 1 1/8 oz loads you should not be having a problem with the load being too light. I would give the gun a good cleaning and check the o-ring.

I gave the gun a good cleaning, cleaned the gas ports, and put a new o ring on. I put 100 rounds through it and it jammed maybe five times. Good enough for now and dove season. Thanks all.
