For those who drop large wild game in a hunt, what are some of your methods to haul this dead weight of 200+ pounds back to the camp for dressing?

My nephews...
Otherwise, gut and quarter it on the spot and haul it out in smaller chunks.
Hunting isn't all about the killing, just like fishing isn't all about the catching.

I am thinking about getting one of those burro donkeys to pack stuff out if I am hunting public land or any other place that does not allow 4 wheelers.

I have seen some type of dolly that has large tires that fold up. I thought it might come in handy if you are by yourself. The thing folds up and does not take up too much space.

I welded up a game cart like the ones you see at Bass Pro or in the Cabela's catalog. I used it on a deer earlier this year and it was great!! I am going to have to get a bigger axle for pigs though...
After it was all said and done, the 100 or so dollars for a commercial version might have been ok too. If you go that route just make sure you get the heaviest one you can! One 250# pig in rough terrain can wreak havoc with 'medium duty' gear!

Well the wife has pretty much put a stop to the donkey idea ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif) but I saw a big rubber wheeled wagon at Home Depot. I wonder if one of those might work.

go with a game cart, they seem to work well, seen a few guys on public that were using them looked a lot easier and draging. wagons just seem like they would take up to much space

Most of my hunting is on public land so after years of dragging game out or using the dolly got old. Now we are not afraid to go the extra mile and it has paid off here lately. We carry in backpacks with the chest straps with all our gear. I have trash bags, game hanger, and bonesaw. We quarter up the game and even debone the hind quarters and shoulders, put the meat in trash bags and carry it out in our backpacks. Last saturday we killed 4 hogs total weight around 500lbs and we split the meat between 3 guys and carried it out 2.5 miles. My shoulders were a little sore but it was all worth it. This seems to be the best way for us on public land.

This is Crazyhorse, and setting up camp at the kill site and eating your way down to a more managable load has always seemed to be an interesting concept.

Now dont laugh, but when we go hunting and shoot something we cant go get with the truck me and my borther go get an old seader post and tie it between its legs, then it goes over the sholder and start walking. It works realy good, and can be kinda fun, but it is also alot of work and you need two people.

We saw some guys down at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge one time, that had a 10 foot piece of inch and a half conduit that they had made shoulder pads for. We saw them carry out a nice buck that way. One time before Ron built our donkey carts, we cut down a small cottonwood and used bailing wire to secure the deer to the wood.

All of these ideas are good, but I am going to do as my step father suggested when I was a little buck! I am marching the game back to my truck at gun point.
Actually I am building a cart as well, recycling bicycles if you will.

Just a few weeks ago the local walmart had all of their hunting stuff on closeout and had 2 of those game carts regularly around 90 bucks on closeout for 25.00. I'm sure there aren't any left but check at you local walmart and see if by chance they still have some. Or make do with what you got until next year then watch the stuff get marked down right after the season. In hind sight I should have bought both of them! A little too light duty for my liking though.

I like to hog hunt. Took a small trailer and welded 2 1/2 X 2 1/2 by 3/16 by 2 foot tube steel at the front corners of the trailer. The tube steel is standing vertical. Next took some 2x2 normal tube steel and made a hang man type of rig. Vertical is about 7 foot and the horizontal piece is about 3 foot. Braced with angle iron. In the horizontal piece I drilled various hole for eye bolts. Big animals need the pully further out and smaller game needs the pully closer to the riser. It is hard to clean game if it is swinging around on you. Took a pully and attached it to one of the eye bolts. Took a cheap winch and attached it to the railing on the front of the trailer. The wire rope goes from the winch up thru the pully and the hook is available to pick up the spreader arm for the game. The tube steel allows you to put up and take down the hang man for travel etc. This works really well and you can have the game right in front of you for cleaning. Also the trailer can hold a big cooler for the meat, a battery for magnetic lights, and the trailer can hold a 4x4 for traveling and the 4X4 can pull the trailer to the game area. I also carry a 5 gal. jug of water. Installed a cork with a hose thru it. The jug is lifted ontop of the truck and i start a siphon for field water. It sure is nice to have clean water to wash the game and your hands. Hopefully this isn't too poor of a description. Trailers can be your best friend in the field. Good luck ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif)
