Just want to know what others think is the best ammo for a remmington 7400 in a 270 cal, I have been shooting the remington corelokt 250gr and have recently tried the Barnes 130gr. Get decent results with both, but I have perfectionist tendencies.

I was a huge fan of Hornady Light Magnum 140g BTSP (3100 fps) until they stopped making them. I've since switch to the new Superformance 140g SST (3090 fps). Jury is still out as I haven't shot a deer with them yet. Accuracy is comparable to the Light Mag's (sub-MOA).

Noticed that I typed 250 gr on the corelokt ammo and it should have been 150gr.

I Have shot 140gr balistic tips, 150 grain hornady interlocks, 130 grain corlocks, 150 grain nosler partitions, 150 grain barns x, 130 grain barns tsx, and im sure some others as well. My favorite factory ammo always went back to the 130 grain corlocks, I know some dont like them but they were always accurate in my gun and did very well on deer. My favorite handload is 150 grain NP by far.

IMO either Federal or Hornady. I use a Federal 130grn balistic tip in my .270.

They are all good if you make a good shot. None are any good if you don't.

I started out using Federal Premium 130 Nosler BT's, and they killed deer but never left an exit wound, and it's thick around here so sometimes it made them hard to find because the blood trails weren't very good. Then I switched to the Federal 130 grain SP's in the blue box, they are cheaper, just as accurate in my rifle, and so far have expanded well and passed through on everything I have shot leaving better blood trails.

Handloads are great, but they are hard to get to operate in an automatic rifle. There are some excellent loads out there now that are being made that would work. I am partial to the Nosler Ballistic Tips.

Try the Winchester Supreme ammo featuring the 130 grain XP3 bullet. My great uncle used one of my .270's a few years back with this ammo to fill his mule deer A and B tags. We were very impressed with both the shock and penetration of the XP3 bullet.

One of the overlooked bonus's of the 270 is that since it has been around with little or no changes since 1925 ammo mfg'ers have had little or no problems designing a bullet for the 277 caliber in the single 270 Win configuration.
I understand the difficulties in making your own reloads for use in a semi auto, but the easy answer is to use a Small Base resizing die and full length resize everytime you process a fired hull.
As far as the best factory loaded bullet to use...I'd find a bullet that was accurate in my gun 1st, then worry about how the bullet performed on Texas sized WTails, hogs and whatever else you'll shoot at.
Accuracy on a shot after shot basis is the key issue...'cause if'n you cain't hit 'em where ya want to ...it doan't make any difference. Ron

I wish PMC was still loading Sierra game kings. That was a great factory load. My reloads were either Sierra 150s or Nosler ballistic tips in 140s

My rifle shoots the federal fusion 130g sp the best. They do a number on the deer too

I use hornady 130 grain sst superformance, or 130 grain interlock. My groups are always better with hornady ammo

My reloads were either Sierra 150s or Nosler ballistic tips in 140s I know Federal Premium loads Sierra Gamekings but at a "premium" price. Go to the Cabelas website and look at HSM ammo. Stands for Hunting Shack Munitions. They come in an orange box. You can get their BTSP. I called them once and they said they used either speer boat-tails or sierra gamekings, but usually sierra game kings. It is a cost effective way to shoot factory boattail loads.
